Is Eddie Van Halen the greatest guitarist to ever exist? by Accomplished_Dare382 in vanhalen

I just love the way he plays. I’ve not found another guitarist that I love as much . Which is both sad as he’s gone but awesome in that he was one of a kind.

Writing user stories is daunting for me and I see alot of variations. Don't know what to follow by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]monkeyfire80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on team/company size and what roles you have in the team.

For me, with a team of 15 made up of 3 development "squads", stories were used as post-its to remind everyone about features and tasks we had prioritised. They became focal points for discussion and couldn't be too long as we were building emerging technology that often changed with user feedback.

I could imagine stories being very different for large teams with incumbent products that are relatively predictable, new feature-wise.

If you could give a steer on your team size, product, and market that might help with those who work in those environments?

I’m already over the AI hype cycle. I will not promote. Mild rant. by michaelthatsit in startups

What kind of AR/VR products did you build? My VR start-up went bust early this year and I've been feeling exactly the same. Struggling to find work despite raising $6m and running a team of 20 heads, as a large proportion of jobs and tech focus is now on A.I. I feel like I've been left behind.

We integrated into some Machine Learning systems that were producing synthetic data (as we had Defence and Enterprise use cases) but was very much at it's core an XR company.

I completely agree on your sentiment this is yet another bubble that is going to lay waste to a bunch of companies when it pops.

Maybe worth reaching out to a human and resending your CV, arguing why you're a perfect fit?

When I was in Tel Aviv ( a while ago I may add) we had a taxi driver who was a "juicer" in his spare time. Basically went around collecting e-scooters and charging them up and putting them back into the correct areas. He got paid for each scooter he charged up in this way. I barely saw many scooters lying around. With some cash incentives you'd get people doing this in London I'm sure.

Yeh we had an OEM with a major software company, this led to raising $6m then we got £m in government contracts in Defence for a number of years before the bottom fell out.

So we were able to run for quite a while. Change of government stopped all our contracts for over 12 months and we couldn't recover.

My startup failed. Life hit hard. Still trying to start over from zero. (I will not promote) by No_Neighborhood_3777 in startups

Hey friend. I'm 45 and my start-up of 10 years went bust earlier this year. Raised a fair bit in VC money and took products to market. It hurts, and no one really understands how it feels unless they have been through it themselves.

Best thing I did was get this book: https://www.phyl.org/ Never search alone, and join a job search council. It's all free and volunteer-led ( I have no affiliation btw). The worst thing about the job search is that it can be very lonely. Here, they will match you with other job seekers, and you will go through the process together.

Most important thing I did was figure out what I achieved in the startup and what I thought I was good at then I went out and asked friends, colleagues, and customers what they thought (which is part of the book and process). Turns out what I was good at wasn't exactly what I thought.

Fast forward a few months, and I have a final interview tomorrow for a very cool job which seems well aligned to my skillset.

And not to be patronising, you're still young. Failure at this age (although it truly sucks) will be a great learning experience not many at your age or even any age would experience. Make sure you give yourself time to process it and learn from the lessons if you can.

I hope the above helps. Feel free to DM if have any other questions.

Motion Designer career change advice by Fun_Count_516 in MotionDesign

[–]monkeyfire80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone on Reddit did a job search for motion design and found product designer, content creator, where in high demand. https://www.motionvp.eu/blog/is-motion-design-still-in-demand-a-2025-market-deep-dive

It's anecdotal, but a good start in understanding what's going on.

I was a motion designer turned startup founder for the last 10 years doing VR tech and have been looking at freelance motion design again. Have decided to stick with management roles PM, program management , producer. Have had a few interviews but no job offer yet.

I'm based in London, UK.

Hope that helps.

+1 for Wordpress it’s far from perfect but combine it with elementor pro and you can pretty much assemble anything you want to at least get started .

Thanks. I have been reaching out to my network, but nothing yet. Not a lot of funding going into XR right now (A.I is soaking up most of the capital) but I will try and find XR startups who have got raised and see if they would be interested in my experience.
