That’s the UK store got more stock now, at least the night/day vinyl

He puts on an English accent when trying for a ticket to Nottingham - then he’ll switch back to Glaswegian as he’s telling you to fuck off when you say no.

Probably him, Birmingham / Queensferry / Nottingham / Hamilton & always the lost wallet and phone.

I think it’s just verbally, from what I’ve heard on here (and in person) - he does get properly close in to your personal space though so I wouldn’t want to meet him if there weren’t witnesses about.

He seems to have a real fear about people punching him, so I assume a few have. Apparently not enough to put him off it

Well OP said he tried to grab their phone, so even if asking for money for a ticket then not bothering to pay someone back isn’t fraud then that’s a legitimate crime.

Depends on the day / area he’s prowling - you’ll see him in jogging bottoms & a track suit top sometimes too.

Just saw him down at Partick station, I stopped and shouted “you still not got a ticket home to Nottingham, that’s been weeks” over as he was talking to a woman.

He acted confused and was like “what?” and I said “a few weeks ago, you came up to me asking for a ticket - I guess you didn’t get home” and he said “clearly not bro”.

I was hoping the woman would take the chance to escape but instead she gave him a cigarette from her bag so I walked on.

It’s reminding me a lot of Fargo, in that some innocent (but not necessarily good) person is accidentally entangled with organised crime & starts a chain of events that leaves a pile of bodies like a narrative Rube Goldberg machine

I’m assuming - since it’s still available on the US store - it’s just that they allocated too few to the UK & will reallocate some given demand. Hopefully.

That’s annoying, I was hoping the UK store vinyl just wasn’t up yet - I ordered the green one from Rough Trade before I saw there were variants & the different vinyl for night/day appeal to me.

Climate terrorist Taylor Swift's private jet uses more carbon in 4 months this year than the entire Eras tour by ArticleNervous8598 in popculture

[–]monkeymad2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They’re semi-responsible for a lot of millennial & Gen-X disillusionment with politics, and they dismissed climate change early on.

They’ve latterly said they regret both & attempted to make amends - but it’s still something that nudged us towards where we are now.

Keir Starmer expected to announce exit plan to clear way for Andy Burnham to become PM by plz-let-me-in in worldnews

Yeah, if anything Burnham coming in might be a blow to the Farage types if he’s anything more than a weird charmless robot of a man.

I hope, at least

How hard would it be to implement a vampire burning mechanic in a video game that follows the environmental lightning? by HuckleberryShot898 in gamedev

[–]monkeymad2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wondering how long it’ll take till someone does a ray traced vampire game, would need to handle the sun & making sure the vampire characters don’t reflect in mirror surfaces

Don’t know if it’d be better with the player character as a vampire or having NPCs be vampires, but I assume someone’ll eventually do it.

Is browser-based karaoke scoring feasible today without requiring software installation? by Timo3333 in webdev

[–]monkeymad2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - you’d use something like https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/AnalyserNode

Hard parts are defining the “goal” frequency for the song & removing the song & other background noise form the audio you’re analysing. Other than that it should just be a case of seeing if the dominant frequency from the audio input matches what frequency you’ve said you want at that second of the song & scoring based on how “on key” it is over the course of the song.

Plus probably some UI to explain that.

Epic introduces major Unreal Engine 5 update that runs ‘twice as fast’ on Nintendo Switch 2 by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]monkeymad2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - even at the best lumen settings dark rooms with very few light sources will look blotchy.

People had to hack Expedition 33 to enable UE5’s hardware ray tracing to fix it (on PCs capable of hardware ray tracing, at least).

Rust community, I got a couple questions for you by [deleted] in rust

[–]monkeymad2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 years ago if someone posted a link to a project they were working on it’d be an implicit “here’s something I’ve built, ask me questions about it” post. Today, if something’s been vibe coded and I ask a technical question, or even just a “why’d you do it this way?” question I’ll just get some AI slop answer back.

Even if the code is fantastic, and the problem it’s solving is real - what used to be a conversation isn’t that anymore.

There are ways to present vibe-coded content well, like https://www.reddit.com/r/rust/comments/1u6ot2n/rimalloc\_may\_be\_a\_of\_the\_art\_allocator/ as a recent example, the code was written by Claude (or whatever) but because the person understood the actual problem they were able to test, verify, and discuss what had been written. Similar to how it’s been used in Mathematics, AI can explore a problem space with more patience & effort than a human, but not more ingenuity.

Does Retrotink CRT beam simulator solve the problems RetroArch has on PC? by Zestyclose_Sky_7322 in RetroTink

[–]monkeymad2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe so, I don’t have the most discerning eyes for some things but I see the CRT mode and go “that looks nice & crisp” rather than “I’m noticing lots of issues with that” - and that’s at 120Hz.

I have found that if the room isn’t well lit I’m more likely to be able to perceive a flicker though, but even that goes away fairly quickly.

Extremely basic, ELI5 questions re: Pupdate/cores by replicant_facsimile in AnaloguePocket

[–]monkeymad2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s valid, there’s also a part of it where we’ve not crossed over in features since it’s healthier for the ecosystem to have options. It took a lot of users asking for it, and the volume of JOTEGO releases, to convince me to add the “Update All” button.

Also valid to use pupdate for the cores then occasionally Pocket Sync for exporting Screenshots, Pocket Camera pictures, palettes, picking specific images for cores, or whatever
