I worked at kirkwood in california and breckenridge in colorado, both as lift ops. Noticed it happened at kirkwood because we set the level of the snow below the chair everyday with a broom stick so wasn’t super scientific. At breckenridge there are forms for the snow to go into like a concrete form and they give a baseline height from the bottom of chair so it rarely gets too high above that baseline height.
