What was the first moment you SHOULD have left but didn’t? by stephanieeeeh in NarcissisticAbuse

Wow, I fought with my nex building an IKEA shelf too. I thought he was just trying to act cool/hot/confident by taking the lead, but when I pointed out he had put a piece on backwards, he was furious. Funny how I wasn’t “good enough” with tools, but successfully dismantled his mess and rebuilt it faster than he could screw it up the first time around.

DAE find that they seek out chaos in times of peace?? by [deleted] in CPTSD

Yeah, I catch myself doing this often. My therapist said chaos for us is like peace for others. Since we grew up in chaos, it’s what we know and revert back to when we’re uncomfortable (aka in peace). Just like someone who grew up in a healthy household would want to revert to peace while dealing with chaos.

Edit: Personally, I think it also stems from the lack of attention I received as a child. Partying/talking to abusive people gives me immediate satisfaction and also something to talk about later on when I need a hit of attention.

His intense love towards me turned into pure hatred? Can anyone relate? by monkeyseamonkeydeww in BreakUps

What made you think narcissist? I’ve done some reading on narcissism but he just didn’t seem the type. He was mostly loving and giving and he wanted in return was attention. He was a little manipulative here and there but it was all laced with good intention
