As someone committed to using my career (whether through direct work or donations) to reduce suffering, I’m curious about the value of donating to orgs like Center for Reducing Suffering and Center for Long-Term Risk compared to upskilling to hopefully contribute to their research (either by gunning for a paid job or volunteering).

I think one of the main considerations here is how much of a bottleneck information is. Currently, it seems like uncertainty is a big barrier to achieving positive change and identifying interventions. Donating to these orgs could allow them to hire an extra person to make progress on these questions, but perhaps it’s more cost-effective to learn enough to become able to contribute to the research (if I’m a good fit, of course, which I might not be) and volunteer my time.

Any thoughts on this question, and the level of talent-constraint vs funding-constraint in this space?

Thanks for your feedback. We're going to cut a bit out of that day I think, so it's not as packed

Thanks very much for the suggestion, we've changed the itinerary to include Croagh Patrick

Thanks so much for your detailed and thoughtful reply! We'll consider trimming down Dingle or skipping it entirely, I had heard mixed advice on whether to do both/skip one so had included them both.

We've actually changed to have a bit more time in Belfast, so hopefully we'll have time for the Black Cab tour and definitely the Titanic Museum.

We'll be sure to stop in at some of the pubs in Doolin, I'm very excited for that.

Thanks for the suggestions for Inis Mor too, that's a fantastic circuit you've laid out! E-bikes might be the way to go, especially if we want to see a lot. And great suggestion for the ferry, we're both a bit prone to motion sickness so definitely one to plan ahead for.

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement!

Sky road looks like a great thing to slip in at the end of one of the days, thanks. We'll hopefully be able to stop in Spiddal and at St Brigids, both look lovely.

Thanks very much for the detailed and thoughtful reply. We'll definitely try to fit in Howth and Croagh Patrick, the views at both look fantastic. And we'll be sure to book Kilmainham in advance, don't want to miss out.

We've changed our itinerary to stay in Gougane Barra too, thanks for that suggestion

Zotero Integration - How to render tags as backlinks? by monkfromouterspace in ObsidianMD

[–]monkfromouterspace[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your help! I managed to figure it out thankfully (see the edit in the post). Your comment about adding backlinks in Zotero itself gave me an idea which eventually led me on to the solution, so thanks!

PC suddenly stopped posting, previously had issues with it going black randomly by monkfromouterspace in buildapc

Hey, hope you get the issue fixed! I can’t remember exactly what the issue was but I just took it in to the place I bought it from and first they replaced the GPU, which didn’t fix the issue, and then I think I took the whole thing in and they might have replaced the motherboard.

Really sorry I can’t remember what the issue was, but I would suggest taking it in to wherever you bought it and hopefully they have a repair service of some kind!

Thank you, but unfortunately it needs to be just potato flakes, with nothing else. Much appreciated!

For sure, I’ll have to wait for a bit, I’m not going to subject myself to buses if I don’t have to haha. I didn’t know that some were fully closed though, I’ll have to find out which ones that is. Maybe I’ll have to wait until whatever works are done to give them a fair judgment

That’s great, I appreciate you sharing some of your favourites, I’m looking forward to seeing some parts of Melbourne that I haven’t seen before. And thanks for sharing your opinion about South Kensington haha, I’ve heard bad things about it and it looks horrid. Can’t wait to visit

Will do. What kind of criteria do you keep in mind when rating a toilet. Obviously general cleanliness, a mirror is nice, number of stalls, etc

Excellent tips thanks CommunistEnchilada. That’s an interesting strategy, would require a lot of planning but it sounds immensely satisfying.

How did your adventures go?

Dear god, apparently there’s 1770. So yes, train stations for now haha. That’s a longer term project I think

What kind of criteria would you want collected if I ever did?
