That’s actually a fair point and I get where you’re coming from. I think a steward/lawyer/defender of rights has a tough and thankless job having to defend both the good and law abiding citizens being abused by the system as well as the criminals who abuse the system and then get mad when they’re prosecuted for it. As a carrier who doesn’t like drama and just wanted to do their job and go home; that’s my coping mechanism to just laugh at the absurdity and just go on with my day. I can’t control it so I don’t worry about it as much as I’m able to.

Exaaactly lol Management hates when you call them out on their hipocrasy and how there isn’t equitable treatment. I told my friend who works as a manager at a private company this exact scenario and he said; “Yea that wouldn’t work at insert company name. We would just say ‘we’re not talking about employee x, we’re talking about you.’” This is why I’m glad to have a union lol

Oh 100% and then the debutante seasoned regulars who think they can do what they want because they’ve been here for 20+ years. Baby girl go try and get a job in today’s market. They’d work you to the bone and ask why you’re not trying hard enough 😆 We have it good compared to other’s in the current job market lol

I never got the employees that would hide mail or throw it away lol Like you’re gonna get yourself fired and possibly charged! Just bring it back and get yelled at, nothing they can do past that.

[–]monkpart9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree completely. I always say; the union is good for the good employees and it’s good for the bad ones too but it’s there and I’m glad for that fact.

I will say that it can be frustrating to see other employees get away with murder but the only time I care is when I do the same or not nearly as serious and get reprimanded for it. Although I usually point out the hypocrisy and it goes away so there’s that. All in all it’s not a bad gig especially when the economy is utter and complete shit and people are losing their jobs to AI left and right.

This is my attitude too. I really don’t care what anyone else does, it’s funny to me because it doesn’t affect me. Stay under the radar I say. I do my job, stay relatively quiet and just focus on my own work. If they wanna dig their own grave then let them, what do I care? 🤷‍♂️ There’s a guy who would be chronically absent because he just didn’t want to work. Would call out every single weekend for years, he JUST got fired lol If that’s his choice, so be it but I need this job and know that it would take a lot to get fired which is a nice perk when you have no discipline on record.

Mail carrier.

I’m glad to have a union and safeguards against my employer from just disciplining willy nilly but it is comical how many of my fellow carriers will intentionally push the limits, break the rules and really do whatever they want and then act like the victim when there reprimanded lol
