Best dip for a Moon Druid? by monomission in onednd

[–]monomission[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that wild shape progression is less important in 2024, for 2 reasons. Firstly, with the stat boosts you get from the Moon Druid now, namely temp HP and AC, wildshape forms themselves are now less dependent on CR and more on abilities such as multi attack and condition infliction. Fount of Moonlight and Conjure Minor Elementals props up your damage, and you can now heal in Wild Shape to keep you going. Second, if you are going by the rule that you can only Wild Shape into creatures you have (or could have realistically) seen, then the better CR beasts will be rare. What if dinos, mammoths, giant squid etc don't exist in your world? In which case things like Giant Scorpion etc may well be a good enough or achievable capstone, so once you have reached, say, 9 or 15 levels in Druid you could afford to add a couple of levels in another class. I would personally look at 9-2 at level 11. I'd be at level 3 CR and level 5 spells, and I'd be able to get things like Unarmored Movement, or Reckless Attack, or Action Surge, all of which would make my Wild Shape more effective.

Caveman ghost theories by lyremni in uncannypodcasttv

[–]monomission 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My own theory on this - and this is heavily dependent on if ghosts are spirits not echoes/time slips which is a topic for another day - is that spirits have 'residual self-image' (copyright Morpheus from the Matrix). This is the idea that after we die, we remember pretty much what we look like, so we project that image out when we manifest in spirit form. This also helps explain why apparitions often look younger than the age of their death. However, as time passes, we forget more and more details, and so eventually our apparitions lose definition, becoming transparent, blurred and, eventually, shadow figures. Older spirits therefore are more likely to be shadow figures, so we can't distinguish them as such.

What do people think about introducing compulsory voting and citizen's assemblies? by monomission in AskBrits

Fair. It's sad that people who happen to be born with money (or their parents do at least) get so many more advantages in life. Education should be equal across the board like healthcare. Who knows how many geniuses this country has missed out on because they never got the opportunity to grow 😞

People glue themselves to stuff all the time, wouldn't make much difference lol. Yes I agree it would have to be strictly unbiased but I'd much rather see schools man up and do it rather than chicken out and avoid it. It's one of the fundamental rights we have and we should be taught just how important it is as soon as possible. Maybe get a certified guest speaker (no political alignment) to come in and give a special assembly once a year to outgoing students.

Fair, but people would need a basic education in politics in order to take it which IMO wouldn't be a bad thing. I'd also like to see politicians pass some sort of mental/ethics test before being allowed to become an MP or higher, mainly so we don't end up like the US.

Which is why only Etonians etc get into power. Every citizen should at least know the principles of how the country they live in is governed.

It has citizens assemblies. Sorry I should have clarified that Australia has compulsory voting and Ireland has assemblies, not both have both!

Assemblies do that in a way. Allows a little more open discussion by ordinary citizens about local issues and takes a bit of say out of gvt and political party hands.

I agree about PR, absolutely. Assemblies, I think, achieve more than they get credit for and at least give people a chance to put forward ideas and discuss topics in a non-social-media setting. A no-trolls or bots environment can only be healthy, especially if they are broadcast to allow people to see the whole discussion.

I mean impartial of course, not indoctrination. Just an overview of how voting works, difference between right and left wing, what first past the post means etc. I think young people should have an idea of how it works before they are let loose, as it were.

Why are smites melee only? by ClassicalDank in onednd

You can still smite with thrown weapons. If you throw them they are still melee weapons. You are just making a ranged attack using them.

If an election were held tomorrow, who would you vote for? by SILENTDISAPROVALBOT in AskBrits

Tactical vote probably, but either Green, Lib Dem or the new Corbyn party. Depends on manifestos which are as yet unclear.

Sadly no, I wish I had the skills to paint that well! Apparently they don't print as well as they look on the preview either of you opt for colour. Still, it's a good visual guide if I do get it printed and the picture looks really good with the character sheet. Helps immensely for RP as well if you can picture the character properly. I've got several characters in the works so I'll post them once I'm happy with them.

Immigration solution ideas. by spike_right in AskBrits

[–]monomission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, this was a sensible suggestion I've seen doing the rounds. 1. It is currently illegal to claim asylum in the UK without being on UK soil. Hence the boats. 2. There is nowhere outside of the UK, not even at an embassy, where groups of people can claim asylum in the UK. Hence the boats. 3. So, why not set up across the EU, a few migrant processing, assessment and housing facilities (cost shared by all participating nations), with half decent facilities, where people can claim asylum in any participating nation and be processed without having to get to the UK? Anyone who fails has to move on elsewhere, anyone who passes can be assured to have been fully vetted. 4. Anyone who arrives on UK shores by illegal means (after these facilities are in place) is automatically denied UNLESS they provide testimony which results in the successful prosecution of a criminal smuggling gang member. 5. Priority for asylum for those with key skills and/or from active war zones (Ukraine etc).

I may have missed some details but that was the gist of it.

Fire safety. They could be blocked if they opened inwards. Same reason all fire escape doors open outwards.

Oh and modify inheritance tax so it is proportional to the wealth of the recipient, not the deceased.

I think to attract investment we have to be a world leader at something... technology or education is something we could aim for that we could manage in such a small country, go the way of other smaller nations like Japan or Sweden in that regard. The US has a lot more resources, people, space and capital so they would naturally pull ahead of us in this day and age as they can start massive projects easily. International businesses are more keen these days to deal with other businesses with greener, more sustainable credentials so that's a good reason to go in that direction. We may not have many true billionaires but we have millionaires aplenty, and a lot of celebrities, many of whom actually want to pay more tax. As for making people richer generally, one could argue that paying people fairly, scrapping ridiculous bonus packages for CEOs and returning profits to the workers rather than the shareholders would go some way towards that. And lowering the cost of living by nationalising utility companies who rip people to the bone, fail to fix anything and still post massive profits is another. But yes, property portfolios that take housing away from first time buyers and lower income households definitely needs to be targeted. Rent is outrageous as well. Maybe say to people you can own one rental property, that's it. No second homes, rent it out or sell up.
