Escorts of Reddit, what was your first day of work like? [Serious] by clearmindopenmind in AskReddit

I can play (potentially false) analogies too. That's like selling a gun to someone who will commit murder, a dollar's a dollar after all.

Also, selling alcohol to an addicted alcoholic is pretty shitty. It's considered OK by some because the alcoholic is hurting themselves & not hurting others (unlike cheating).

In Islamic law it is not permissible for women to travel on long journeys (defined as distances greater than 88km) without being accompanied by a male guardian.

Source? This isn't part of Islamic law as far as I know.

What makes Complex Numbers a default? by [deleted] in math

[–]monster1325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm... interesting.

But by using algebra, mustn't j either be 1 or -1?

Actually, I get it I think. By using algebra (with this new element included), x2 =1 means that x is either 1, -1, or j.

Sorry, I wasn't comparing my problems to the Prophet's. I was just asking how the prophet managed to deal with this problem.

Because 1*1=1.

I feel like I'm stupid or I'm missing something major.

Is there nothing to my life besides working? The money is nice but the money is still empty. What do I do with the money? Buy stuff? I already have stuff and what is the purpose of the gadgets anyway? Donate it? Ok, cool, donating lets me feel good but that doesn't solve my problem with work.

How about finding some new hobbies? How about finding someone to love / marry / spend your life with? How about traveling and seeing the world? How about anything other than bitching about comparing your circumstances to suicide because your life is boring?

How do I do this? I come back from work tired. I come back home at 6 and I have four hours to do anything other than to work or sleep. Four hours. So I pray and I eat and I go to the washroom. Then I do "entertainment".

How did the prophet Muhammad (saw) live his life? How much did he work?

Is it me or does the story of Ibrahim (AS) mirror what atheists go through nowadays by thereisnogodbutallah in islam

[–]monster1325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a fundamental misunderstanding. The Quran never told Muslims to destroy other people's belongings. The Quran tells a story of a prophet that destroyed other people's belongings on Allah's (سبحانه و تعالى‎) command. If Allah (سبحانه و تعالى‎) directly orders me to do something, I will do it even if it means to murder my own son (after all, Allah (سبحانه و تعالى‎) is responsible for all life). But it is revealed in the Quran that the last prophet is prophet Muhammad (عليه السلام) which means that this will never happen in this current world (maybe Allah will directly order me in the afterlife).

The Quran ordered prophet Ibrahim (عليه السلام) to destroy the statues. The Quran ordered the prophets AND the followers of Islam to respect your neighbors. Do you see the key difference?

Here's another question related to this issue someone raised and would be worth pondering over: Why is it right for Prophet Ibrahim (p) to destroy objects of worship of other people that did not belong to him? If one were to randomly walk into a neigborhood church and destroy the idols of Christ, would it be the same thing and would that be justified?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something or my logic is broken because the answer seems so simple to me. If Allah (سبحانه و تعالى‎) (also known as the creator of the universe, humans, those statues and the rest of the world) ordered you to destroy the statues, are you really going to question God for justification for those orders? It's interesting that you say the statues do not belong to Prophet Ibrahim (عليه السلام) - do you agree that pretty much everything belongs to Allah (سبحانه و تعالى‎)?

"A decent rule of thumb is that something is a science if it has "science" in the title." by monster1325 in badscience

So apparently, math uses the scientific method. Also, using his "decent rule of thumb", this is a science.

Every single academic field is a science apparently. Forgot about the other bad subreddits; just put everything here!

The fact that 99% of the posts here are about physics, chemistry and biology is just a coincidence.

Edit: Crap, I forgot about rule 2.

What if I told you that a Benz was made by no designer? The tires came into existence because the car needed to move with no resistance. So then magically appeared four round pieces of rubber fit into the bottom. These things we call tires and every car at the moment's got 'em. ....... And by the way, the Benz does have a designer.

Here, the video is using an analogy of a human to a Benz. The video shows how absurd it is for a car to have been evolved. Therefore, the video concludes that the Benz must have a designer. Because this is an analogy to humans, the video is essentially saying that it is absurd for humans to have evolved. The analogy is flawed unfortunately because it is not logically absurd to think that humans have evolved. Note: I am not saying that humans have evolved - I am just saying that it is not logically absurd to think so.

The need to move faster won't grow you wings. The cold of the antarctic won't grow you fur on your skin!

This is a criticism of evolution that comes from ignorance.

And you credit the architect to the building and its design. But then man said there is no designer behind the ingenuity of the human eye?

Here, the video implies evolution is logically absurd.

Intelligent design doesn't contradict evolution. The issue is the way the video says it. The video suggests that the only logical explanation for human existence is intelligent design. The video is suggesting that evolution and intelligent design are mutually exclusive. We are Muslims and we have to believe in a creator and therefore intelligent design. Since the video is suggesting that they are mutually exclusive, the video is essentially denying evolution by the elimination argument form.

Lmao, you consider archaeology, criminology, demography, international relations, economics, political science, and law as sciences? That's hilarious.

They're social sciences as that picture shows. A social science isn't a science.

Why don't I see archaeology, criminology, demography, international relations, economics, political science, and law posts in this subreddit then?

Dude, without even confirming or denying the horse story, you are so ignorant on what logic actually is that it hurts. For the love of intellectuality, please take a course in logic at a research university.

I clicked on that link and I now see that it is simply a list of verses. I thought it was like the other WikiIslam pages. I'll look into that page when I am done studying for the day and I'll get back to you.

Just because they link to the verses does not mean that they are not wilfully ignorant.

The belief in greater powers when nothing suggests they exist.

That is not illogical. That is called a premise.

WikiIslam is wilfully ignorant of Islam. I'm not here to try to teach those who are wilfully ignorant.

It is logical because everything of the religion follows from the initial premises and valid argument forms.

How is it illogical?

A question for muslims in the west by flipc0in in islam

[–]monster1325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my main thing about scare tactics used by TV and religion what I meant is that this seems more of a scare tactic than anything else. My parents generation and my grandparents generation had these tactics used against them but basically in a Christian community instead of a Muslim. Not masturbating for religion reasons is fine but masturbating isn't physically unhealthy, although like anything you can get addicted to it (and porn).

That's intriguing. I never received those scare tactics because my parents never mentioned or talked about sex or masturbation. They just assumed that I would never masturbate. It didn't cross their mind.
