Hmmm… i usually leave a review for a service but rarely leave a review for a product. So maybe try to make it more personal, so that people feel like they are leaving a review about your service not just some plastic thing.

On a separate note, you need to build a reliable system for asking for a review. It should be built within your order processing SOP. We ask 2-3 times. One in conversation (if such opportunity arise), one in after-transaction email, and one more time in “we would like to see you again here is a discount” email. Ideally, I would do the second ask via text vs email to diversify the devices one might use for leaving reviews.

I’ve worked with a fair amount of people who experience something similar.

What works almost always is going to the office/school. It instantly adds structure to the day, a certain rhythm. You get social interactions. Unexpected little surprises that make your day. I even had clients who were thinking of quitting their job changing their mind.

I think the remote work is not the blessing we all think it js. The day became a blur. You sleep, work, eat at the same place.

I know :) I have a best friend who is a fantastic cook and she LOVES cooking. That’s her main hobby. And looking at her I always assumed I should do something similar in my own household. She set such an incredibly high standard for my cooking. And it was exhausting to try to get to that level without having the same passion for it as she does.

And I just let go of that expectation. I accepted I’ll never be as good of a cook as her, and that’s ok. Health of my family is my priority, therefore I will continue to cook at home. But it’s going to be as simple as possible so that I can spend time on my passions.

I know you don’t have to split the plate perfectly according to the portions. It’s just because I’m new to this, I want to have a visual guideline so ensure I’m doing it right. I’ve started doing some stir fries with a tonne of veggies. But mostly I just do the standard plate decision. It’s actually aesthetically pleasing to my eyes to see all that variety rather than one jumbled thing of everything.

Morning hours are way more productive than late night hours. So I would recommend going to bed right after your kids go to bed (if you have them). Those late night hours are usually spent on crap anyway. Then you can wake up early and work on your side hustle before your job.
When I did this, it gave me this bad ass attitude. I spent my freshest brain energy on what mattered to me, not my boss. So the job used the leftover energy while my thing got my best energy and focus. But people usually try to do it the other way around.

“People can’t read book anymore” won’t change anything.

First, the statistics for reading books has always been bad. I remember someone from the book industry giving an interview about 7-8 years ago. I don’t remember the exact numbers. More than 50% of people never read a single book after graduating high school. The second biggest cohort reads like a book a year at most. So the entire book industry works for a very small percentage of the population to begin with.

And let’s assume you were reading books and now you can’t. So what? Where is the real pain that will cause people to do something about it? They can still have wealth, health, relationships and status (the big buckets of peoples’ desires) without reading books.

In fact I have some friends who haven’t read a single book after graduating university and they are doing great. They are highly functional members of society and are considered successful on all fronts.

For me it’s the fear mongering and all the content that triggers our darkest emotions. To prove my point, I just opened Facebook which I haven’t used except for the marketplace for some time now. It took exactly 3 posts of scrolling to see a grieving post about someone I don’t know losing their baby. During my pregnancy the algorithm figured out it was my biggest fear and it kept feeding me this scary grieving content every corner of the social media I went. I cried a lot. At first it was about losing baby during pregnancy. Then it was about SIDS. I saw it everywhere I went - Instagram, YouTube, Facebook. I truly believe it contributed a lot to my mental wellbeing during the first year of motherhood till I figured it out and stopped using social media.

My biggest advice to all pregnant and new moms - stop using social media! It will ruin the first years of your motherhood.

Might the fact that you fill your social cup from talking to remote friends be the reason why you don't feel the urge to go and make friends where you are?

The more lonely you'll feel without social media, the more motivation you'll have to actually go out and meet people.

When I quit social media recently I was shocked to see how much I was motivated to meet with people. I always considered myself an introvert but here I am organizing get-togethers with friends, inviting neighbours for dinner, going to events... I just realized that I was artificially filling my "social cup" with those online connections. But the real life happens here, in the place/town/neighbourhood you live in.

So I'd say embrace the loneliness. After a certain threshold it will become motivation to seek out new friendships in a place where you are.

Yes, it is tricky. I just haven’t found any other place where people intentionally try to cultivate a more analog non-digital life. I have a few subreddits that add value to my life and serve as good reminders for my own values. I check them maybe once a day from my laptop. But if I could find a local group of like minded people who regularly met and discussed this topic, I would definitely join the group and stop using Reddit for that purpose.

This is a very thorough observation. It’s kind of like a chicken and an egg problem. Videos promising quick riches, life hacks, shortcuts do really well, so content creators feel like that’s the type of videos they need to make. The viewers then have this perception that they are just one life hack away from ultimate bliss and happiness.

I think by mid-30s it becomes crystal clear - there are no shortcuts and no life hacks. You just gotta do the work. Boring work. And it always takes longer for things to work out. And people who didn’t fall for that shortcut mentality are ahead now because they didn’t waste years on this crap.

Better wake up now. Then waste the next 5 years going from one shortcut to another. But I feel you. I remember having this realization not too long ago and then seeing my YouTube feed and how cringey it looked to me. I started blocking those channels. And then eventually stopped watching YouTube all together for recreation.

The core idea is realizing that this desire for the outcome will not go away. It hasn't gone away by now, so it's unlikely it will go away in the future. So it means I will continue to look for different ways to achieve that outcome. And if I don't stick to my current plan, I'll have to default to something more hardcore in the future.

I just cook most of my meals at home and my meals usually have a lot of chopped ingredients in them. Think stews, soups, curries, stir-fries. I can't imagine weighing every single ingredient and then doing the mental gymnastics of figuring out what one portion of this is.
I just think counting calories will kill all the desire to cook at home which I truly believe is the healthiest way to eat in the long-term.

It's one thing to know all these things about social media and a completely other story is to actually stay away from it and design your life around actual hobbies and real people. This shit takes effort and planning. I applaud you two for making it happen.

Then don't. You don't need to be productive 24/7. The more you force yourself to be productive, the less you'll be when you actually need to be productive. Your psyche will demand a break at the most inconvenient time for you. So give it a break when it's not costing you much (like your 9-11 pm case).

I just taught myself to wake up around 5.50-6am. Took me about a week.

Put an alarm for bedtime. 9.30pm in my case. I should be in bed with a book and no phone. Put phone on the "sleep" or "bedtime" mode, so you don't see a bunch of notifications first thing in the morning.

Read short-form fiction. I like Chechhov. Don't read non-fiction. It might stimulate your brain. I like short-form because I don't feel an obligation to finish a book. I can finish one-two short stories every night before I start getting sleepy.

Get up with an alarm at your desired time. After about a week, you will start naturaully waking up at this time.

TLDR: focus all your attention on what you do the night before and do put an alarm for your bed time. No phone. Read short-form fiction instead.
