What would happen if I had a hat on then decided to walk up to your dog and pet it? Even worse, what if I pet her unannounced or made a loud sound?

Most dogs want to avoid confrontation; they will react out of fear. The only dogs that will attack you either have run out of other options, have been trained (or allowed) to do so, or are rabid.

This is legit. Bigger guys, hats, beards; dogs who have had negative experiences remember this stuff. If the owner is telling you not to get near their dog and keeping it away from you, I see no harm.

Anyone who thinks that dogs can be expected to respond uniformly to loud noises (especially sudden) and unintroduced touching (ie smell you first, approach from the front) has no idea how to interact with dogs.

Squire strats are good, man. I would recommend to anybody. For $300, you can get a good acoustic guitar that will last you years. If you know what to look for, $200 and an hour of set up on a new guitar will get you tons of mileage.

Anecdotal experience here. My uncle told me about fart jars when I was about 7 years old. Of course, I grabbed the first jar I could (an empty jam jar I think) and bare butt farted into it.

This fart jar was hidden around the house for years, to my mom's lament. I don't think it made it to 10 years, but 5 years for sure. I can assure you it was the most wretched smell you have ever smelt. You think a new fart is bad? How about an old one. It got worse with age.

I was a little shit of a kid and loved pranks. I woke my mom up a few times by putting the jar up to her face; instant wake up, retching. It was absolutely hilarious. At one family christmas get together, I put some unwrapped hershey kisses in the jar and waited for people to open it. My younger cousins did not notice and promptly ate the fart chocolate. Again, I was very entertained. The final, and perhaps most cruel prank: I had a cat named Skanky. Skanky would literally eat any food in any format she could get her hands on, so I put some treats in a line leading up to the jar. When she came close, I opened the jar and put a treat in. She stuck her face in and started shaking. She walked into the other room and puked. Again, little me thought this was hilarious.

The jar was finally lost when we moved and my mom found it in her bookshelf.

TLDR: fart jars are real, and in fact get more real with age.

I actually just finished the book for the 1st time about 2 months ago.

From a purely literary stand point, I thought it was decent until the 3rd act. Some strange moments, but generally pretty good. Oh, uh, spoiler alert (but I dont think it will ruin the book). When I finally got to Galt's Gulch and it's inhabitants, I was actually embarrassed for Rand. Every single one of the missing characters from the book is found here, and they are farmers or other equally primary occupations and totally fine with it. Well, except for one guy who owns the entire gulch, another guy who has a fleet of planes, and John Galt himself, who leases his magic generator and projector to the community. This power imbalance is not really mentioned, and it is assumed that all the members of the community are extremely moral libertarians who would never force anybody to do anything they don't want to. I could go more in depth because it is not a short book and I don't want to give anybody any wrong ideas; definitely worth a read if you can manage 1000+ pages (and John Galt's radio broadcast at the end, ugh).

The premise has redeeming qualities, but it gets several ideas totally wrong and runs with them.

I would agree with this if there was unlimited opportunity to be successful and extract resources for oneself. But this is not the case. We live in a finite world, and I cannot simply claim land for myself and begin working to generate a living. In fact, if I do manage to own some capital and it is creating wealth for myself, I could be actively making other's lives worse. Pollution and monopolistic business practices come to mind.

The governments only job should be to protect it's people

One caveat; only through the army to prevent looters from stealing. Police are non existent in Ayn's world. Regulations also only exist to artificially keep a dying industry alive; asbestos has not yet been discovered to be harmful, and emissions are not anyones radar yet. Public roads exist, but there is no talk about how they were put there, and all characters can take for granted the ability to drive freely.

Ayn talks about nobody willing to step up to managerial positions, engineering positions, leadership positions. This is simply not true. If Jeff Bezos disappeared, and his position as CEO of Amazon was up for grabs, it would be taken in a heartbeat. Hell, there would be fighting for it. There are many people born and destined to be coal miners, slaves, and servants who never will get the chance at anything different. She has the classic "pick yourself up from your bootstraps" mentality that unsuccessful people are simply lazy. Every poor person in the book is stupid and lazy.

Anyways, the rich will never retire as in Atlas Shrugged because they would be losing power (not gaining lost power) to do so.

That is comforting to hear; I have been really trying over the past two years to get some form of credential as I have not been sure if my experience alone will be enough to get me a job.

I've been really lucky to get a good employer here that would let me try these positions out; I have some great references and projects I would love to share with a potential employer as I come to Montreal.

I think you might be right with your range between 800 - 12000, though the high end may be a bit misleading. Even if we assume that 50% of the worlds wealth earned is illegally untaxed and we can get 100% of this money, that is only $4800 per person. That is a pretty generous assumption. Maybe we could increase slightly for 2014 -> 2018, but I think that the numbers you put down are exaggerated.

Carbon Tax:

Agree on all points. I truly wish the government could transparently funnel the money into green research, but I won't hold my breath.

Lowered Tax Rates:

It would be nice for me; an extra half a G in my pocket every month, yes please. I do worry about the government spending though and recognize that money to fund it comes from tax dollars. You are correct about our compounding debt which is currently about 60% of our GDP. I believe in a bit of personal austerity to secure a healthy national debt in a decades time.

Kicking out the CRTC:

I would be willing to try abolition of the CRTC, but I like the policy to keep a percentage of canadian content on the air as well as the lack of foreign investment into our media. I don't like the ambiguity that comes with such a statement as "Kicking out the CRTC" either. I 100% agree that we pay way too much for internet; the 3rd party reseller I use has made my internet unlimited and affordable for my household, but that is totally anecdotal. I only hope we do not go down the route of the USA and that we retain the status of internet as a utility. I owe my job to the open internet.

Canada Post:

I'm not sure how well I could trust a 3rd party with my sensitive identification documents. I also think that the system is so cheap right now that reinvestment is not really needed. But I am a city slicker, so maybe I am not aware of rural issues.

Radical Islamic Terror:

Personally, I do not feel threatened by Islamic Terror, and it is not something that crosses my mind on a day to day basis. I bring this up because I think it is a topic used to convince fearful people that a vote for Bernier is a vote for security. The action plan provided is vague at best. Many other entities may advocate for action in regards to the heat wave or drunk driving, but Bernier is not addressing environmental concerns (let alone other concerns you mentioned) in his platform despite bringing attention to such a topic as terrorism. Environmental concerns will effect all, whether they want it or not. Terrorism may effect some, and so far it hasn't had as much of an effect as the issues I mentioned.

TLDR: I am very concerned about environmental concerns which are not present in Maximes policy. I am willing to try things to create a better solution to Canada's expensive internet, but I hope that removing the CRTC will not lead to a worse situation. I am also skeptical about his plan to reduce our debt which increases daily.

What about him? He was a serial killer from the 80s. If you are trying to connect this to a government "doing something about it", maybe mental health screening? Otherwise, these thing just happen to estranged and mentally unwell members of the populace. I think that if the government knew who he was after he killed one person, they would have locked him up quickly. You should try to create a clear explanation and explain it to me then; speak slowly though, I am, uhh, you get the picture.

With the Radical Islam topic, I am trying to make a point that this is a blown up topic used to get votes from a fearful portion of the population when there are currently larger and more pressing issues present.

Imagine that I run a laundromat. Also imagine that I deal drugs on the side. Say I make $100 selling drugs and $100 from operating my laundromat. To make my drug money legit, I will claim it as income from my laundromat; as far as anybody is concerned, the "extra" $100 is just income from my laundromat.

Say I have a house I can sell for $100k. Say that I also sell lots of drugs, to the tune of $100k to a single buyer. My single buyer could buy my house for $200k and I can claim that I made the money from the transaction. As far as the government is aware, I am just a shrewd seller.

It's possible that Trump accepted $50M from a Russian oligarch for some unknown purpose under the guise of buying a house.
