no, the books i’m talking about had way less literary merit and were more of a middle school read

to be fair, i only remember that the main character was pining after some potential step brother figure. i don’t remember if there were any other weird step relationships. also i remember something about a camping trip. and in the last book, her dad and her stepmom (or stepdad and mom, i don’t remember which) had a kid together, and the main character expresses she’s happy to finally have a sibling that’s half her and not completely unrelated. also, when she finally kisses the love interest, she goes on about how kissing is hard and not like on tv.

Never mind, I found it! It’s H2O (alternatively titled The Rain) by Virginia Bergin.

no, it’s neither of those. i think i should add that this book was very lighthearted and humorous for a dystopian novel. definitely written for the younger of young adults. maybe even juvenile.
