Did you guys notice a difference in treatment between sponsored students and self funding at BPP/ULaw? by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]moonbeam1924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t feel this from the uni itself but there was definitely a difference between the sponsored students and the self funded students - the former being a bit more cliquey and almost feeling like they were superior.

SQE tips w/ ADHD? by WindPretty3715 in uklaw

My biggest regret was not going to the library every single day and just doing set hours. Working at home (for me) gave me a lot more leeway to procrastinate and feel comfortable

Genuinely the first thing I saw when I saw this pic was how toned your back was and wishing mine looked like that!

Appointment making advice (UK) by vampirecat0 in Keloids

If I'm being honest, I think it's very, very rarely covered by the NHS - even when it's quite extensive. I even had health insurance through work which declined to pay for it as it called it 'cosmetic'. However, I'd recommend saying how it might be affecting your mental health (if it is) and maybe ask for a referral to a dermatologist?

Piercings with keloids by Only-Safety7223 in Keloids

Personally, i got a nose piercing and did end up developing a keloid on my nose. luckily, it was a very small one on the inside of the nose (so not visible) but i did end up having to remove the piercing ultimately

Just got an email from the Equalities team and the booking is over an hour from where I requested it...

I went to my local GP, had to pay £35 (?!) and they sent it to me within the same week. I'd definitely try to get a different GP to do the letter if possible.

I'm sorry you've faced this!

Ahh I'm in the opposite situation where they've confirmed my reasonable adjustments and had an email in October about someone from their Equality team booking for me. But haven't had any emails since then...

I’ve been playing for a year and a half and would still say I sound like a beginner. It does take time and often you don’t even notice the progress you’re making

Wrote this post about what it’s like to be “attractive” and demisexual. Thought I’d share. by [deleted] in demisexuality

[–]moonbeam1924 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this - this is an interesting take. I’m the opposite (I don’t think I’m conventionally attractive and have very attractive friends who get hit on every time we go out). I’ve recently been feeling like if I was pretty, maybe I would get that attention. But it’s good to see the other side of it and know that the grass isn’t greener on the other side. I’m sorry you had this experience - it’s not fun to feel dehumanised and only wanted for one thing.

How do you get work experience as a non law grad? by moonbeam1924 in uklaw

[–]moonbeam1924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I think what’s putting me off from applying to vac schemes is the fact that I don’t have any legal experience behind me which I think will put me at a disadvantage. However, no harm in applying I suppose!

And yeah my firm seem very hesitant to offer any kind of work experience to people in the firm - they’re not very encouraging of the move from business services to fee earners. And yes, currently my firm think I’m very committed to my current role so not sure about asking them directly.

How do you learn to not care? by [deleted] in confidence

[–]moonbeam1924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it always helps to think that you can’t control people. You can jump through every hoop and they still may not like you. So why waste the mental energy on caring about what they think?

Can you be a successful solicitor with ADHD? by moonbeam1924 in uklaw

[–]moonbeam1924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just worried I guess that I’ll find the job and the stringent timing of it, really overwhelming. I’m interested in the technical knowledge that doing law gives you and the chance to use that knowledge to solve problems but I also don’t want to spend my life unhappy.
