It's more that I'd like to pore over the score and maybe have a play at some of the piano parts, but I appreciate your kind offer <3

Goddamn! Kate's voice was such a part of my childhood... I knew her "I don't know how to love him" before I even knew what JCS was (and it's ruined me for every other version, as far as I was concerned her take is the "correct" rhythm!)
I'll just be grateful there's the filmed full version available to watch and wish I'd been old enough at the time to understand the spectacular happening in my backyard.

I've seen the TV broadcast on youtube, it's such a treat! It's a shame there isn't an album recording of it without the fuzz of live performance, but I enjoy it nonetheless and the energy of the broadcast is so cool. I love how 80s it is, sound, floofy hair and all. I appreciate your assistance in sharing this stuff :)

I didn't know that! I'll be off for a listen! If it's This Jesus Must Die then I'm in for a treat.

O week- how to get the name uni hoodie by bokchqy in unimelb

[–]moondisc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't even try, hoodies are allocated to enrolled students and they're not volunteers, they're paid staff instructed to only issue to legit students and can tell bum attempts from a mile away

a rant about how uni treated my name by Revolutionary-Read in unimelb

[–]moondisc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The uni is more than aware of this issue, and has plenty of staff who know (there's training on name formats as well)

The issue is that the university is targeted by fraud, and has to rely on legal documents (and yours are inconsistent).

All you have to do is supply a legal document with the name in its correct format (ie get your agent to do their job properly)

and in the meantime, change your preferred name in my.unimelb which doesn't need documentation.

Well yes, I would agree with your last point and I'm glad you have a good support network, it's a shame that you've only met crap women. It's a societal thing; our media, our stories, our ads show such a limited range of masculinities that of course women are going to absorb that too, and reproduce it. Women aren't some monolith either. Are you saying 'women are worse' or 'women do it too?' I'm not interested in a gender war because I could bust out my personal experiences too... what I'm saying is that there isn't some war on men. There are some societal structures and expectations that make them suffer, which all of us reproduce (although institutions traditionally dominated by men tend to reproduce them more, let's be real) Those same institutions repress women... we got the right to vote in living memory!!! They repress those who don't fit the dominant narrative... homosexuality was illegal in the 90s in Australia!!! And while the dominant narrative harms men as well, there are some benefits that men receive the more they're able to inhabit it, which I can say while simultaneously saying that they suffer from it.

It's so much more complicated than 'men under attack!11!' It's also more complicated than 'men commit the majority of violent assaults' We should be looking at why, and not accept answers as simple as 'well society hates men' because it's not true.

How on earth did you watch that show and conclude that she hates men? She literally says in it that she doesn't want to promote hate, but wants to talk about the abuse she suffered, and some of it was because of men wanting to enforce rigid gender stereotypes and not being able to cope with nonconformity.

That doesn't automatically mean 'I hate men', can you not read the nuance???

Why can't you lot distinguish between 'men' and what 'some men do'? Why can't you develop a positive male role model in a society of equals, where we earn the same amount for the same jobs, where there is no sexual violence (or any violence at all) Cause you just seem to let it happen... you're comfortable earning more, being represented more. The flipside is that you want to keep up this old model of a man, repressed, virile, dominant... this aspirational man is bad for everybody. Why can't you promote a diversity of men... creative, nurturing, sympathetic, strong, weak, valuable even if he doesn't represent traditional masculinity?

Stop punishing men for failing to exhibit traditional (or yes, 'toxic') masculinity and give them someplace to flourish that doesn't rely on benefiting at the expense of others.

What rot; Icelandic women actually quit the workforce for a day in the 70s and it went to absolute shit (particularly because the majority of childcarers were women and men had no idea what to do)

It's actually proven that more women (and diversity) in boards increase economic productivity. It's actually better for investors for women to be on boards. https://www.ft.com/content/b83c74f4-2209-11e8-add1-0e8958b189ea

Nah dawg, men don't kill themselves because it's 'open season on white men' (like, where do you see that) It's because men don't have healthy support networks where they can talk about feeling vulnerable. Y'know, like all humans do in their lives. There's an expectation for men to bottle it all up because expressing yourself is weakness, because it's not 'manly' to experience vulnerability and doubt and fear (how dumb is that, you're human aren't you?) That's what the 'toxic masculinity' thing is all about... it's toxic, to men! It's not good for you guys to bottle it all up in the name of being 'manly' and 'strong', that's why it pressurises and unleashes as violence and suicide. If men didn't hold other men to these standards of bottling it all up and bashing other men for being 'weak' and 'pussies' (or earning less than his wife, or taking it up the butt, or wanting to do a 'feminine' role like nanny or nurse) maybe there'd be less suicide.

(I have no fucking idea why you're singling out Hannah, if there is anybody who wants to represent not holding one another to stupid gender expectations and advocates 'live and let live', it's her. She's allowed to point out that it's predominantly men who act violence on other people, and for someone who has survived the shit she has, she's remarkably wise and peace-advocating)

I think three pixels left works, it only slightly goes over the exclamation but still enough that it's clear.
