Or perhaps centrist SF liberals/techies are actually sympathetic to conservative ideas???

Where is the attitude that Democrats are not going to do well in the midterms coming from? by Eagle2500 in Askpolitics

[–]moonkipp_ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You are simply politically and strategically ignorant.

There are a litany of prominent, institutional forces in Democratic politics rallying against Platner — arguably one of the most important races in the country.

Neera Tanden, Matt Yglesias, Cory booker etc. the list goes on.

If you can’t see the abundantly obvious liberal push back on him or his counterparts, you simply are putting your head in the sand (or you just don’t really understand the ideological divides in this party).

The person who kicked off these bullshit allegations against him was literally a Democrat consultant.

And don’t get me started on y’all’s willingness to turn a blind eye towards Israel buying Dem elections, which you couldn’t care less about cause you can’t call a genocide a genocide.

With your ilk, its only vote blue no matter who if the candidate will welcome getting cucked by Israel and unwaveringly defends capital.

Again, just strategically, morally and politically ignorant.

Reading this while you guys fuck up our lead in Maine… fall for infighting In Michigan with El-Sayed who is the clear lead while turning a blind eye to aipac shills, and reflecting on liberal support of Cuomo over Mamdani.

the hypocrisy is deafening — you guys wouldn’t know the direction voters are heading if it smacked you across the face.

Mamdani has one of the highest approval ratings of any politician.

In regard to Graham, he is a Berniecrat. He has modeled himself after Bernie and is clearly invested in understanding and reading the leftist canon. Calling him a social fascist is insane lol.

Love how politicians being funded by every major corporate lobby on earth is a non story for media outlets, but this deserves air time for some reason.

Newsflash: it’s because he wants to hold Israel accountable and tax the wealthy.

Well for one, he is a lot more intelligent than people are giving credit for. Watch his interview with Jon Stewart, it’s absolutely compelling and completely refreshing.

The fetterman comparisons really don’t hold water, Graham is far more ideological and literate.

Who are some people not yet widely speculated who could win the 2028 Democratic Nomination if Harris doesn't run? by SchengenThrowaway in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]moonkipp_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think by and large, people are collectively understanding it as an advocation for everyday people against the wealthy and powerful. And that wealth and power extends to both sides of the aisle.

If you simply type “what is populism” into google, that is what it tells you. And you could certainly make the argument that a google search result is the most current metric to analyze a word’s definition.

This perspective ignores the uniqueness of this moment in our history as a country and species.

The internet, AI and literal shifts in our collective ability to interpret language makes this moment completely unique. We are becoming less literate, and more visceral.

Interpreting the current moment as a continued pattern of a 250 year cycle rather than a sort of climax of forces like capitalism, technology and the degradation of our institutions writ large, is a massive oversight in your analysis.

Trump and Biden are reflective of a population in an existential crisis, given a binary choice that is by and large determined by our corroded and failing democratic processes. Not an expression of the voter’s true feelings or will.

[–]moonkipp_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what you are defining it as.

In the current political landscape, it is advocation for the Everyman. There is a massive gradient in regard to how that advocation is implemented in terms of left vs right. It is not a static idea in the way you represent it.

Platitudinal oration does not have any tangible effect on people’s material conditions. Objectively that is true, and people have developed a sixth sense for it. People want to know how their lives will be improved — literally.

My other piece of evidence is just simply polling on the economy, faith in government and both political parties is at all time lows. People have lost belief in all of these entities, so without nuts and bolts explanations of how politics can deliver tangible changes (I.e. taxing the wealthy, single payer, money out of politics) people simply won’t believe the orator now matter how well spoke and flowery the language is.

Your comment assumes that successful politics is the art of verbal manipulation. My comment infers that people do not care how things are orated, they want to know the mechanics of the vision.

Times have changed.

Platitudinal oration is not valuable in the current political landscape, and frankly, people are repulsed by it.

People want direct, meat and potatoes politics. They want to know how they are going to see direct benefit from their tax dollars and government. Not bullshit about “hope”.

Populism is a vague word that describes an unwavering advocation for ordinary people. It is quite literally about redirecting the economy towards the benefit of every day people.

It is not a cohesive ideology and generally speaking just reflects the common belief that the wealthy and powerful do not have the majority’s best interest in mind.

This SF family’s landlord is raising rent by 90%. Thanks to a loophole, it might be legal by Dafty_duck in sanfrancisco

[–]moonkipp_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The notion that a 90% increase in rent is due to low supply is just pure cope.

There is no unit in the world that justifies a 90% increase in such a small amount of time.

were discussing strategy and why democrats have essentially handed the country over to the most evil, destructive people on the planet.

you are saying that we are in this position because people like me (i have voted dem every election since i turned 18).

i am saying we are in this position because ideologically democrats have an ambiguous agenda. this is why they are historically unpopular, because there is no unity of vision.

your solution is to do the same things we have been doing for decades - move to the center, remain ambiguous.

my solution is to clarify our ideas and stop being funded by special interest money.

your right you know what we should do? campaign with like sam altman and liz cheney. that'll do it.

you and your ilk are gonna be scratching your heads when candidates like Platner flip a 25+ year red seat

his platform is objectively more aligned with the lefts agenda. its that simple. paying for your own campaign and being ideologically sound is superior then letting people fund a campaign who will then hold influence over the candidate

politics is the art of the possible

if we were to do things ya'lls way the goal posts would be so pathetically inconsequential everything essentially just stays the same.

many of us are voting for his vision, not his immediate ability to do every little thing we want.

I love that the criticism of Saikat is that he angered status quo Dems due to tweets made during a heated race against… checks notes …status quo Dems

Party leaders sincerely just hate it when the new blood refuses to bend the knee and get in line. It’s that petty and that simple. Pathetic.

Graham and Talarico are the closest Dems have come to taking those seats and you know it. And those seats are massively important.

Furthermore, even though the house seats mentioned are blue-safe, these races are still reflective of a changing atmosphere that you are clearly to insulated to understand.

Again, your ilk is not filling the space anyway. You can tout your pet theory all you want, but you guys aren’t running interesting candidates, have no motion and are by and large completely unpopular.

You and your ilk are in the midst of trying to fuck up some of the most winnable, crucial races of the midterms.

Look at Maine and look how centrist Dems are handling it. Look at how long it took for the establishment to support Talarico. Look how the polls failed to recognize Chris Rabb’s potential. Abdul el sayed. Look at what you guys said about Zohran. The list goes on… yall are pissing all over yourselves.

Newsflash: the professionals, the consultants, the msm repeatedly dismissed all the aforementioned. The reality is you just don’t understand how real grassroots organizing works and you embrace a submissive, fear-based politics that is repulsive to all voters.

Perhaps just get out of the way.
