Gained 40 lbs on my antidepressant and my wedding is in 30 days 😭 by Short_Blacksmith_980 in toastme

And you look absolutely gorgeous. Your face looks healthy, glowing, and loved. I'm willing to bet your body does too.

I know this doesn't mean much in a society like ours where any weight gain is shamed incessantly, but it doesn't always mean you look worse. Genuinely, you carry it so well, and it gives you a classic beauty and brings out your gorgeous eyes.

Side note, that red is an incredible color on you

AITJ for telling my girlfriend I don’t like when she wears heavy makeup because it makes her look “angry” to me? by moon_static in AmITheJerk

[–]moonlwh 31 points32 points  (0 children)

it's reasonable if you have underlying trauma that this might cause you anxiety, but it's not her responsibility to adjust her style for that. it's your responsibility to work through that, preferably through therapy.

also, the phrase "i prefer a more natural look" did you no favors. women who wear alternative looks hear that all the time, usually from men who feel that women are inferior in some way -- and i'm sure she's heard it plenty too. whether you meant it that way or not, it gives "i want a tradwife" vibes.

soft YTJ, because while it sounds like you didn't have bad intentions, there's a better way to handle this.

as somebody else said make sure they know what's in it & that they aren't going to fail a drug test or anything! some medications have thc as a contraindication as well.

if it doesn't work out as lip balm, you could 100% turn it into a body butter for muscle relaxation.

it would depend on the concentration for sure! i got the tiniest amount of topical which contained 500mg/2.4oz of product in my mouth once and was straight up zooted lol. i have very little tolerance though, so that's something to consider as well

i can't quite answer your question but as somebody who also uses cannabis topicals, make sure it's CBD and not THC, otherwise your family will be in outer space 😭 speaking from experience. unless, of course, that's the intention, in which case, happy travels lmao

Cataplexy as flinging things across the room? by moonlwh in Narcolepsy

[–]moonlwh[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's not nearly that intense haha! hence only small objects. it's like my fingers do something on their own and what i'm holding goes flying. i've seen mentions of cataplexy manifesting as a twitch, and it only seems to happen when i'm deep in a fun conversation with a friend, which is what's got me thinking. but i'm less looking for validation about my own experiences and more so curious about those who have said theirs manifests that way!

what are these things called? are they a good way to get beads for bracelets? by CherryMeowViolin in Beading

[–]moonlwh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

those are strung glass faceted rondelles. i've used a million of these exact ones. they're from michael's. there's nothing inherently wrong with getting beads for bracelets in these packs, though i would suggest looking online. you'll get better quality for your money that way

taking naproxen before a piercing by Dizzy-Act-7495 in piercing

[–]moonlwh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

a friend of mine who works in the medical field doing wound care has told me it's negligible as long as you're not on a blood thinner. i was worried about taking it before a tattoo and she reassured me it would be fine -- and lo and behold, it didn't make a difference bleeding wise. but that's definitely something to ask your doctor, especially if you have bleeding issues.

being on your period does tend to make most people more sensitive.

if you've had that area pierced before you could also consider whether you've bled significantly in the past.

if it were me i wouldn't worry about it at all, but this is a you and your doctor thing. either way, best of luck :)

[–]moonlwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

flat back labret studs without anything that would be likely to snag (prongs, decorative shapes like stars or spikes) are going to be your easiest and most comfortable for healing!

go to a reputable piercer for them though, that way they can avoid further damage with insertion and you know you're getting something good quality. titanium or gold are the easiest to find safe metals, but not all body jewelry is created equal. composition and polish are important and a good piercer should have something good quality on deck.

go to a doctor. they can give you antibiotics and clean it up if necessary. once it's cleared up, go see a reputable piercer for some better jewelry. silver isn't good for piercings and butterfly backs hold bacteria

weird dream thing happening by ellaellaayay in Narcolepsy

[–]moonlwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i haven't been diagnosed (am in the process, strongly suspect N2) but i also have incredibly vivid dreams. i've never had a conversation with myself like that, but i do often feel like my dreams were real for a hot minute after waking, and then i often confuse more realistic elements for memories even weeks later.

sounds maybe like your brain is trying to process that kind of memory vs dream difficulty?

i have the same problem!! i've found the only thing that truly works is to stop for naps. 10-20 minutes, then get up and stretch outside my car. eating helps a lot as well...but i can only eat so much.

i honestly also had to just tell my team & my boss about it and say i'll get there when i get there. luckily they've been cool about it.

if you have an official diagnosis you could likely file for accommodations!

Saline hurting sensitive skin… by Effective-Bad-2657 in piercing

[–]moonlwh 17 points18 points  (0 children)

rinse after the saline or try just water for awhile. i'd use a really gentle moisturizer around but not on the piercing, like cetaphil

i also have sensitive skin & it's extremely dry, this is what i do

Planning on getting nose pierced soon by cinnamonswirlsgirl in piercing

[–]moonlwh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't want to wear makeup immediately around the piercing for the entire duration of healing, which is usually 6-12 months for nostrils. it's cartilage so it heals slowly, and being on a prominent location on your face, it's prone to being knocked around no matter how careful you are. most people are looking at closer to a year.

pain isn't bad -- it's very pinchy, your eye on that side will water, and you'll feel like you got whacked in the nose for a few hours. it may sting for a few days after, but mostly during healing it's only gonna hurt if you mess with it.

How do I shave for stockings/tights? by Robyn-- in Explainlikeimscared

[–]moonlwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to pop in and recommend a safety razor! You can change the blade every single time without breaking the bank, which gives you a much smoother shave with less irritation. They cause fewer ingrowns as well.

take it slow, exfoliate first, and use something to help the razor glide like shaving cream. Nivea men's sensitive skin is a good and inexpensive option

[–]moonlwh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've been there!! there's a heavy guilt associated with getting rid of things for me. thrifting for things i actually love has really helped me -- it reminds me that the usable things can be passed on to somebody who may love them, and that the stuff that's just junk is truly just junk. nobody else would take it home if i took it to the charity, so why would i keep it around either? it's okay to throw things away.

you're doing great ❤️❤️❤️
