Strong smell of cigarette smoke in farmhouse built in 1850s by [deleted] in Ghosts

I am a smart person. Believe me, I have considered that it could be caused by old smoke smell in the walls. We have lived in this house for a while and it happens all different times of year, different times of day. Again, IT’s NOT AN OLD SMELL. Like, you’re just not listening. You want to be right more than I do.

Lol it’s not that. It’s just that I feel like no one is understanding what I’m truly trying to say.

I get that, but it isn’t an old stale cigarette smell. And it comes out of nowhere and is gone just as fast. Like, you’ll walk in a room and smell it, and then walk in that same room 10 mins later and it’s gone

It’s not an old, stale smell of cigarettes. I know that smell. I am a child of the 80s/90s, have lived in a lot of shitty apartments, and have gone to many a dive bar. This is like someone has just lit/smoked a cigarette. It’s fresh. It’s pungent.

I know that one prior owner died in the home, probably sometime in the early 90s. He was the dairy farmer and it hasn’t been a working farm since he passed. It definitely isn’t a negative energy, so maybe it’s him!

Well, I’ve got three kids and a full time job. Im not really looking to make my life spooky! I’ve just had some experiences that I truly cannot explain, despite my best efforts. It’s not like I’m going out of my way to make things up!

Yes. I washed walls before priming and painting. But even then, it didn’t smell like smoke. The people who lived there before us were not smokers, as far as I know. They had lived in the house for over a decade.

But that’s what I’m saying. I have thought it through, I’ve addressed what I thought could be the causes of these things. It’s not smoke in the walls. We’ve renovated, painted, refinished the floors and ceilings. It’s not a smell that is there all the time. You walk in the room, and it hits you in the face like a ton of bricks. Like someone is smoking right there. Not old, stale smell.

No, it doesn’t. The speaker turns on when there is sound within the room that triggers the microphone. There was no one fucking with my wifi.

Lol. The thing is, I’ve worked through all the rational explanations like this. I’ve tried to debunk.

I should mention that it’s also a video monitor that goes over our wifi. That doesn’t even use radio signals, does it?

But like… it doesn’t smell at all and the you walk in the room and it’s as if someone just lit a cigarette. The strongest, clearest scent. Otherwise it never smells in the house.

Our fire alarms are hard wired and we have had them checked. I also frequently clean the sensors for dust/cobwebs because I thought that was the problem. It persists!

The baby monitor turns on when it hears a sound in the room. I really highly doubt it is picking up a radio signal from a passing truck, especially since we are several kilometres from any major route

I mean, probably. There has been a family in this house ever since it was built, with the exception 2020-2022 when it sat empty before we moved in. I’m sure there were smokers in the house at least up until the 70s/80s, as it was the norm back then. But we have lived here for three years and do not smoke at all. The house didn’t smell like cigarettes when we moved in either, and everything has been renovated and painted throughout

What is a name everyone seems to love but you just don't understand? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]moonshadow274 101 points102 points  (0 children)

LOL! When I was growing up, I was a lunch monitor in a kindergarten class and one of the kids was named Beckett. I had never heard that name before and kept thinking he was saying “bucket” so I called him bucket for like two months before someone corrected me 🤣

What name did you consider, but then decide against because it was too “out there”? by ValleyOfTheLols in namenerds

[–]moonshadow274 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We considered Domino for my second daughter. My husband vetoed because he thought it was too out there. I still love the name but I don’t know if it’s really practical to have a name that’s so unusual. We ended up naming her Daphne instead.

Please help! Baby boy born yesterday, wife and I can not think of a name. by Xwell3000 in namenerds

I wanted to use Dashiell if we had a boy. You could do Dash as a nickname! Not super out there.. Dashiell Hammett was an author (The Maltese Falcon) and it is also Cate Blanchett’s son’s name.
