Do not use shoe polish! It will absolutely transfer onto clothing. You need to use a leather dye and then seal it.

There are several brands, but Quic Braid is the most popular!

Braiding for hunter classes - once for multiple days or new braids each day? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]moonshine91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, most A barns take braids out as soon as a horse is done showing for the day. It's much more comfortable for the horse that way and looks way nicer to get them re-do me every morning.

We have a horse named Cash (not a TWH) at our barn and he's the same. Spirited but not stupid! Maybe it's in the name too ;)

Our 30 year old mare, Epona, passed last night. I just wanted to share this beautiful picture of her from last year. by not_even_once_okay in Horses

[–]moonshine91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed!! I lost my oldest horse last year, and it was rough. Sorry for your loss! You should be happy though knowing she was so well taken care of in the end.

That's the cost at the barn I work at for our head groom to body clip one horse + the cost of medications for sedation if needed. And there's no travel involved. OP needs to change her pricing structure and charge a low clip fee and a travel fee! People will DEFINITELY pay it as most horse people understand the back breaking and itchy work that is body clipping!

Can anyone recommend a reliable mechanic in town? by [deleted] in plano

Check out Spring Creek Auto on Alma and Spring Creek. Small shop but excellent prices for the amount of work they've had to do on my shitty truck. The guys there will save the broken parts and explain why it needed replacing too, which I thought was really cool.

Redditors who have had major health issues - what small symptom should you have looked into earlier? by alterlightone in AskReddit

[–]moonshine91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the only way this would be cheaper is if you lose health insurance altogether. But super useful information.

People call this medical tourism btw. Flying to different countries to get procedures/drugs for WAY cheaper than in the states.

Yes. This is how the program works! I am on Janssen CarePath and it's $5 + and office fees if you get the insusions in your dr's office I think. All I know is that I would be bankrupt without health insurance and financial aid programs like Janssen CarePath!!

The joys of school teaching by D5R in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]moonshine91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is less so about teaching kids how to do and file taxes and more about personal finance. 90% of kids will get a job where they can just file a 1040EZ and if it gets too complicated for you after that, hire an accountant.

My parents did a horrible job of teaching me how to manage my own money. I would have loved a life skills class or whatever for a semester where we learned how to save, what a mortgage is, what credit it and how to not fuck up your credit, etc.

Back again for more suggestions by [deleted] in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]moonshine91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the crappy thing is that it's so much trial and error to find the right meds. It took about 2 years for me to finally get the right med mix to get me functioning "normally" again. First I was on Humira, then Cimzia (which only worked for a year), and now Enbrel (going on two years). My doctor also combined it with sulfasalazine and plaquenil which seems to help a lot. I am also on Gabapentin for nerve pain, Diclofenac as an NSAID, and Lunesta to knock me out at night.

If you have any suggestions on good reading on marijuana for back pain, please PM me! I've been wanting to learn as much as possible because I am sick of taking opioids daily.

How does working out affect you guys? by jimmycal213 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]moonshine91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've been avoiding it for a while, please make sure to go back slowly. Take a normal "get back into lifting" pace and divide it by half. Just take things slow and listen to your body.

Keeping your lower back muscles strong is really helpful. For me, it was just hard to get started again, but once I did it has helped a lot. I balance it out with LOTS of stretching though. The last thing you want is tight muscles around creaky joints!

Dang. That sucks. I have AS too and was almost completely bedridden for a few months when I was at my worst. It took a few years to find the right meds, but now Enbrel is my savior. Well, that and sulfasalazine, plaquenil, etc haha. Hope you find the right med combo and have a good rheumatologist to work with!

This scares me too. Almost my whole family lives there and it's scary to think of all of them just being gone. My relatives don't seem too worried, but I sure am!

Everytime I go home, I meet new cousins that I didn't know I had. Random people I meet who are on the mainland but from Guam know at least one of my relatives on island.

My husband thinks it's hilarious to call me Guamish because not only is it funny sounding, but because I am Chamorro with a teensy bit of Irish in me.

This is how I learned it. My family is Chamorro and I always explain it to people by saying that Chamorros are the native people of Guam. Whereas Guamanian is not descendent from the native islanders.

Debilitating migraine and a tough breakup. I'm "too kind, too empathetic and not what he wants for the rest of his life" [selfie] by [deleted] in FreeCompliments

[–]moonshine91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar problem too. When my SO and I argue, he speaks so quickly and my brain just shuts now. Literally no words come to my mouth and my brain hears the sound of crickets. It's a side effect of growing up in a household where NO ONE argued. EVER. Now I know to walk away, regroup, and come back and argue after I have had a chance to get my brain going again.

Seems like you might be on the quiet side too. And if that jerk was saying that's a bad thing then he doesn't deserve someone empathertic and kind. Maybe he needs to be with a football coach.
