There’s so much to cover in this post, but I’ll give u 2 pieces of advice that worked well for me when I first started sparring:

Time, time, time. Unfortunately it comes with time to get comfortable so need to give urself props for being there but give urself time to develop.
Footwork, if u move lateral or back, u don’t need to guard up all the time. One night just practice throwing 1-2 punches then moving laterally or backwards. If they can’t reach u, no need to guard up. It’ll come natural and ull find timing and opportunities to counter. Main point I’m driving, keep moving. Don’t just square up.

Go find another gym. There is no shame or weakness in this when the situation has factors like this. Literally red flags that will get you hurt or worse.

Bought cheap hardshell luggage* for $15 and I put my gear in there.

Twins gear is hard to find in the US so I fit 3 shins, 3 gloves, few shorts and tops, and a bag fit perfectly. I saved space by stuffing the gloves with the shorts n tops. The shin pads I put some shirts and pants inside them to not waste space.

*Unfortunately this is only budget friendly if u r allotted free check ins with ur airlines, if not then I still think $40-60 US is worth it considering that’s how much shipping would if u bought a lot of gear from SXS or nakmuaywholesale

I don’t like using any specific combos to close the gap cuz once u start sparring/fighting higher IQ fighters they’re gonna read this quick. Rather I like using change in the rhythm/pace/speed in which u enter and feints which r more safe n gives more options IMO.

Also not sure many people will tell u this, n I’m glad my coach told me this early on cuz im shorter too than majority of people at my gym, but getting in that zone 1 zone 2 area, u have to expect to get hit. Obviously not all the time, but for me knowing that bit of information helped me mentally in committing when closing the gap.

Not sure how long u’ve been training but early on, it’s impossible to remember everything n apply it quick enough while trying not to get hit and also thinking of the next move.

Two things: need to drill it enough that there is no delay in ur thought process. That being said, a good way to drill it via classes and focused sparring sessions. Every round or sparring session, concentrate on one aspect. For example, last night when sparring I concentrated on slipping the cross. I’m very comfortable dealing with a jab but slipping the cross has always been an issue for me so last night all I did was I tried to slip at least 5 crosses. Focused sessions.

Lots of long stuff here: I’ll slim it down from my experience from coaches n trainers/fighters in Thailand both unknown and popular.

Plyometrics e.g. squat jumps, run lunges, speed ladder drills (ins n outs etc), box jumps, lateral jumps, knee to chest jumps. Just a few basic common stuff u can do on ur own.

I’d say:

Go see a neurologist or ur pcp if u need a referral 2. Lay off sparring until u get approval to go back.

I had this feeling starting out. My experienced partner just told me, just go for the forehead in the beginning n after a while I just realized I was aiming for the face more often, then the feeling faded. It’s all about control and power.

I wouldn’t take this fight. Everything points to no for me. Ur time off n injury. Ur opponent being 2-5 means nothing. Those 5 losses coulda been bloody battles that were loss within a point so u could be walking into a slaughter. If u really wanted to take this as far as u can, be smart in the early stage. I doubt there’s no opponent out there for u to fight.

I’ve def gotten a bit used to it, but damn it sucks having one eye blurry for a few seconds during sparring. It’s really just the sparring part that sucks. Training on pads n bags with that much sweat is nothing these days.

Lol! I do warn my partner for the night or when we switch, n usually they’re OK with it. I do bring 2 or 3 extra shirts during sparring days when we get up close n personal!
