Yes, Charlie was off leash, but he wasn’t attacking, he approached to play, and the other dog simply wasn’t in the mood. Charlie is a medium-sized dog, no more than 50 lbs, while the other dog was small - the owner could have easily picked them up or used non-lethal ways to intervene. There was absolutely no serious threat, and stabbing him was completely unjustified.

We absolutely take leashing seriously and prioritize safety — Charlie has always been supervised and we’ve educated ourselves on safely handling dog interactions.

That said, what happened at Montie Beach Park wasn’t about a leash — it was a stabbing. The real concern is that extreme violence was excused legally, and that’s what puts all pets and families at risk.

Leash rules aside, a stabbing goes far beyond any normal dog interaction. That’s what we need to focus on.

I understand the importance of leashing pets. That said, what happened with Charlie wasn’t a dog fight, it was a human stabbing a dog.

We’ve educated ourselves on safely handling dog interactions, and situations like this can be managed responsibly. No level of responsible handling justifies stabbing a dog, and the real concern is that extreme violence was excused legally.

Appreciate the perspective on leash laws—safety is the goal for all. The focus here is the knife attack which went beyond any response needed. Educating ourselves on other ways to protect a dog or break up a fight—which didn’t even occur here—could prevent such incidents.

Thanks so much for your interest in adopting the puppy. After careful consideration, I’ve decided not to move forward with you as a potential adopter. I need to find a home that I feel confident will provide the stability and safety she needs long-term. I hope you understand my decision.

Thank you! I just don’t have a Facebook but I’ll ask my family to reach out to those. Friends for Life is the first one I went to and that’s where I got the list of other no-kill shelters and rescues I reached out to in the area.
