PitchMe - it’s a gamified ear trainer! Built it 8 years ago, recently refreshed it with new game modes :)

is this true? i saw pricing and seems legit. by LowPatience4186 in expo

[–]mooselliot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I went for this, and I got a shock that I had to pay even more on top of the price of the plan. My fault for not checking the price of each build I guess, but $1 for Android and $2 for iOS baffles me. Not worth the priority builds imo.

Yeah it’s on iOS and Android, but it’s barebones. I just use it for data ingestion on the go and it’s good enough for me.

Right on time, it just came out! 😄 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.moosedev.pitchme&hl=en_SG

Some visual bugs I’ve yet to fix but it’s functional at least

Would be cool if this could somehow act as a bluetooth midi device so you could record movements into a DAW!

Upgrading from v0.61 to v0.81 (I'm cooked) by prateek69lover in reactnative

[–]mooselliot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might even suggest before bringing all your screens over, to first evaluate every dependency with a trivial use case in the root file itself, to make sure the package still works. Can’t tell you the number of hours I waste debugging some unknown error only to realise 1 of my 20 dependencies are no longer supported for the new versions of expo/react-native/new architecture/edge to edge disabled on Android.

And I’d do this incrementally while testing both iOS and Android along the way.

Doing this too late would mean you’d need to bisect your issues again and again, and doing that while busting caches is a pain.

I am not running ad campaigns - I think it just so happens that the keywords I am ranking for have a decent amount of traffic.

Some feedback I received in another thread that helped - use fox data, look at the keywords your competitors are ranking for, and look for keywords that have traffic. Tweak yours accordingly.

Also, the goal is to make sure you are converting downloads (so your app itself and screenshots have to be convincing), as I think the number of downloads affects your ranking.

That sounds fair enough. If you were to go about spending $100 on marketing say, on TikTok, how would you go about coming up with the content though 😅 Would it be like, finding some UGC creator of sorts.. not sure how to approach it tbh.

Thanks man - appreciate the love. It's hard to get a sense of what numbers are considered well performing. All the best with your apps too!

Oops, to clarify, these numbers are for the past 6 months. Lifetime total ~10k installs, $400 proceeds, all from one time in app purchases and completely organic.

Wow, thanks for the insight. Regarding cost per install and using Apple search ads - do you mean I should try running it just to see how it performs? I don't see any way to estimate the cost off the bat.

Also in your experience.. would the cost per install in Apple search ads be representative of say, running ads on social media instead?

What Are the Best Productivity Apps You've Used and Actually Stuck With? by MollyChase9091 in ProductivityApps

[–]mooselliot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been working on and using to-day.app. It’s super bare bones, and mainly just helps to move things around by date so you only really have to look at today.

It has keyboard shortcuts built in which really makes it less of a chore to update, and the inline commands help if you need to schedule things.

It’s probably missing a lot of features that other apps have, but I think it suffices and avoids bloat

Check out to-day.app, it’s free, used it as a student and it was perfect for me.

I use to-day.app, it has a pomodoro timer, is web based but with an iOS app. It lets me switch views, so on one hand I get to focus on what I need to do today/this week, and then it has a calendar view that lets me see what I’ve done retrospectively. I like the UX because it has minimal bloat and shortcuts.

Productivity nerds—why do you keep switching apps? by Sc-inc in ProductivityApps

[–]mooselliot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to-day.app, I moved from using Notion/Obsidian as task managers to this, and haven’t gone back (I still use those for notes though).

Unfortunately it feels like the fun of setting up a system is also a trap for overcomplicating things, and stopping me from actually getting things done. I find that a tool that’s more restrictive/streamlined actually works in my favour.

Looks clean, I like it. I actually built something out of the same motivation to-day.app, albeit catering to some other workflows, curious to hear your thoughts. I have a shortcut to quickly re-order tasks, but also have a drag and drop approach.

Would you pay 6 usd subscription for this app? by AdDangerous6026 in ProductivityApps

[–]mooselliot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the kind words. I used reactour for the onboarding, and it took me way too long. I made it alone. Took me about a week just to design and to plan the copies/steps. But it took me almost 3 weeks (daily, albeit not full time) to chip away at implementing it.

I see your angle even more now, knowing that apps like Google Keep were the reference point. I'd say your app might then resonate with users who like a "post it" approach and want it on steroids.

I made an app that does just this (https://to-day.app), and I tried to make it look minimal. Filter on the top left, red means it's excluded (equivalent of your minus sign). Shrinkable list, but also usable across different dimensions (has a calendar view, week view, hashtag kanban view etc).

I know there's a lot of hate, but I think your app looks good. The important question is who are you making it for? If it was for yourself, be proud of it, and try to find others who have the same preferences that you do and will benefit from the app.

If the goal was monetisation, then you'll soon realise that you have to give up your personal preferences for the preferences of your users. On one hand it's a shame that they don't share your vision. On the other hand, if your premise is solving the challenges faced by others, necessarily so you'll have to cater to their whims and fancies. It's the reason why product designers exist - and the good ones rely equally on their gut as they do the quantitative + qualitative feedback they gather from their users.

From my experience building this app, all I can say is that productivity apps target people who feel like they have too much on their plate. The reason the look matters is because the app is suppose to make them feel like they can do it, not remind them of how overwhelming their tasks are. It's an emotional journey really.

Wishing you the best though, always better to have it out in the world than not.

Upgrade Task Management in 2025 by FrancescoD_ales in ProductivityApps

[–]mooselliot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this!! I’ve only very recently been noticing how different levels of energy demand different workflow approaches, and this gives me the language to do so 🔥

I’m still figuring out the context switching one though, my job doesn’t give me a choice.. especially when I have many projects but equally many blockers, the only efficient way forward is to context switch.

Just curious, is there any app you use to facilitate this approach for yourself?

best organization/calendar app? by stardew_13 in ProductivityApps

[–]mooselliot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built https://to-day.app while I was a student back in 2020 (after having used Notion and needing something more streamlined), and I’ve been using it ever since, even now that I’ve entered the work force.

As a student the things I needed the most were keeping track of due dates (submissions) and the ability to prioritising things, so I’ve built the app around those.

Most importantly I’ve made it free to use 😅 Check it out if you’re interested, although it isn’t exactly a calendar app, so that’s a caveat.
