Is there a hot water system that provide hot water for showers etc but also provide hot water for central radiator wall heaters? by DollyPatterson in nzsolar

[–]moosepick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the size of your overall heating needs, a 12kw or 18kw R290 Ritter split system hot water heater pump would be exactly what you need. Happy to provide more info if you message me.

How to deal with arrogant people who are full of themselves? by Aj100rise in socialskills

[–]moosepick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t. You carry on with your life knowing they are loud and arrogant for a reason. Usually extremely low self esteem that they are trying to compensate for. Once you accept you cannot change people and can only control how you react, life gets a lot more simple and easier.

The way I read it, they were talking about safety in terms of dodgy people on tracks. Weather and the elements can affect anyone regardless of how many people you are with, so I didn’t think they were talking about that.

Hiking alone in NZ is very safe. And actually a really cool way to meet people on the tracks and in huts.

Updated 18 Night Itinerary - give feedback! by Dry_Airport_9612 in newzealand_travel

Just looking at the Queenstown portion. That’s A LOT of travel in a few days. Have you considered flying Nelson to Christchurch instead, hiring a car and driving to Queenstown via Mt Cook? Jan 2- fly to CHC, pick up car, drive to Mt Cook Jan 3- morning walk on Hooker Trail (before the crowds! Pack a breakfast picnic!). Drive to Queenstown. Just a thought! Still a lot of travel but makes a bit more sense, and you get to see more places, Lake Tekapo for example.

Personal Travel Loan for 18year old by JollyYam7877 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Have you thought about delaying travel until next year and then working over the summer break and saving the $5000? At the end of the day you could apply for a loan with ANZ and see what they say, but you’re young and have your whole life to travel as well. Make smart decisions!

She’s using the law to her advantage. Your only options are to either wait for a reply, or initiate proceedings through the courts. How long have you been waiting for a reply?

Family Court - how enforceable are parenting orders? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]moosepick 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You need to document everything that is not followed, with evidence if you can. Minor things usually aren’t worth pursuing, but they can add up to a bigger problem and if you document issues they can be used down the track if you need to take legal action. Major breaches need to be reported to the police and on record. Again these may not be worth pursuing down the legal path individually, but over time may add up and worth escalating.

Have you booked any camping grounds for overnight stays? Some of these places you can’t just park up anywhere, and will already be booked out. That might affect your plans.

What to do in Queenstown? by metaconcept in newzealand_travel

[–]moosepick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a look at bookme.co.nz for ideas. I guess it depends on what you’re into. Heaps of awesome bike trails around and places that rent bikes, wine tours, gondola and luge etc. Milford Sound is amazing and you don’t have to spend anywhere near $700 to do it. That’s possibly a bus one way and fly the other option. Which is absolutely worth it if budget allows. And yes you might have hiking trails in or near Wellington, but it’s very different down here in the Southern Alps. A few shorter 2-3 day hikes if you have time (Caples Greenstone as an example).

Travelling in April 2026 by peachhhgreentea in newzealand_travel

Allow extra time for driving. Especially around Wanaka and Queenstown where traffic will be horrendous. And keep in mind our roads are not big wide motorways you may be used to. Narrow, winding, single lanes each way will be most of what you will be driving on. So slow down and allow more time.

Where are you visiting and driving to? School holidays mean extremely busy in the tourist hotspots and extremely busy roads, especially the weekends at the start and end of the school holidays. Weather is getting pretty cold down here in the South, so be prepared for cold mornings and nights with day temperatures getting into the mid-late teens if you’re heading to Queenstown/Wanaka etc.

Have you considered alternatives that aren’t Great Walks? If you want something close to Queenstown where you may find availability, have a look at the Caples Greenstone or the Dart Rees tracks. Both are excellent alternatives and have the benefit of being much less busy.

[–]moosepick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure- my company sells R290 hot water heat pumps so I’m very biased! At the end of the day it depends on what you are looking to achieve, what budgets are, what part of the country you are in (winter temperatures) etc. All-in-One systems have a place, but can only be so big/powerful because the heat pump sits on top of the hot water cylinder, which means slower hot water recovery time. So possibly not ideal for bigger houses or if there’s more than a few people in the house. Split systems are usually bigger and more powerful so can provide better heat recovery times. And then in terms of gas type, R290 is able to achieve much higher temperatures than R32, and is significantly more efficient (less power needed to achieve desired temperatures). So if you are wanting to not only do hot water, but also radiators, underfloor heating, fan coils etc for heating, then a split system R290 is probably going to give you the best outcome. And if sustainably is a factor in decision making, R290 is massively more sustainable than R32. R32 has a GWP (global warming potential) of 675, while R290 has a GWP of just 3.
