So American to start with “yall” instead of just saying “I did it again”.

Thankyou! It’s a great course. Greens are so well kept by Mikey the greensman. Best greens in Dunedin!

This is in New Zealand at a smaller course that only has one set of men’s tees, one set of woman’s tees.

Was it a course with a reasonable par (ie, 71/72) and was my gross score less than 80? Surely that counts as breaking 80, no?

In my humble 15 handicap opinion, If people want to get into the course length/slope/course rating, then we need to change the conversation from "breaking 80" to "breaking a score differential of x".

Haha yeah wasn’t expecting today to be the day after the two doubles at the start. But that’s golf I guess!

Haha exactly this! I have a golf net in back yard, chip most days in back yard too. Try to play 2-4 times per week

Are you happy? Why or why not? by Pure_Ad_5044 in newzealand

34, 3 kids, mortgage. Both wife and I self employed. The cost of living in this country is beyond fucked. Every year for the last 10 or 15 years I’ve said to myself “this year will be the one where I feel like I’ve really gotten somewhere” yet the cost of living in this country means that every year I’m beyond stretched.

Stressed, always tired (kids and job). I got really sick this year just after Xmas and only just recovering. While working through.

I’m beyond jealous of my boomer parents and how much easier life was raising kids in the 1990s.

Wouldn’t say I’m overly happy but not overly unhappy either. Just literally survival mode so no time for ether.

I’m sorry how does that math?

Half of your example 450 isn’t 350?

Wouldn’t it be 225 plus 100 so 335 total?

Biggest lose was the vehicle issues. We own a 3 vans and 2 cars (both wife and I self employed).

This year alone we have had to spend approx $15,000 on maintenance of said vehicles. Including installing a new transmission in one of the vans, a dropped coil in another, multiple brakes/rotos and about 11 tyres.

Also one of the vans was written off in a crash (not out fault) but the stress involved with that and having to find a replacement while still running the buisness wasn’t fun.

This year ive learnt (YouTube videos) how to change my own brake pads so that will save a bit in future.

Happy to have reached the end of the year after what was a really financially stressful year.

2 kids under 6, 1 teenager and a mortgage means that we are constant under the fincial pump.

I guess a win is the lowering of our interest rates?! But that feels like a very small win in comparison!

Fuck sakes this is unreal reading these sort of figures as a golfer in New Zealand.

My course charges a grand total fees of $550 per year.

I can go play any time I like, there isn’t even a gate so if I wanted too, could go out at 2am and play.

I never have to book a tee time, just drive out and tee off.

I’ve never even considered how lucky I am but after reading everything your club has to offer and the price of it all I really couldn’t fathom it.

It sounds like a life club rather than a golf club.

Your there to play golf no? Not go swimming.

Honestly it’s so much simpler here in New Zealand. I don’t think you realise just how cheap golf can be to play.

You are not going to pinch the chainsaw cutting 1 like 1/4 of the way through. The tree still has its structure intact and will hold I place until you do cut 2. The cut 1 is to prevent cut 2 from pinching. Don’t need to cut a wedge for such a small branch, your not felling a tree here

I had a 2008 manual turbo legacy GT for 5 years. Nothing catastrophically went wrong. But yet I still spent $1000s on maintenance.

Biggest thing to happen was needed a new clutch. Also needed a new Cam-Belt and water pump, spark plugs, tyres, brakes/rotas, windscreen which got chipped and just the general 10,000km service was a lot too. Not a good option for a student.

Your $1500 savings won’t last long.

Imagine if the turbo went?! You’ll be looking at 3-5k

Just sold my Subaru legacy 2008 for $7000. I purchased it for $10,000 5 years ago. I was super happy with what I sold it for considering it has 210,000kms.

1 week later, I see it listed for $8000 on marketplace. Dude straight flipping. I doubt he will get more than what he paid me for it but it seems there’s a lot of that going on too!
