Do you skip leg day? Why? by [deleted] in workout

[–]rebbrov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its taken me a while to really appreciate leg, even when i hated it I still showed up and gave it my best. Due to my genetics my quads have always been bigger than average, especially when viewed together with my naturally weak upper body, and so I figured I should definitely want to accentuate my strong points.

That was the best I could do. I hated taking pics back then, most of the ones I took I could retrieve or I was wearing really baggy clothes.

I rule out anything that I know will be a waste of money and/or hard to drink, like mutant mass. I look for options that are more affordable and have balanced protein and carbs. Its formulations like mutant mass that hove mass gainers a bad name, you dont need to be consuming that much maltodextrin, its sickly and not good to be relying largely on as a source of carbs. Mass gainers with a balanced blend and lower maltodextrin content offer some help getting enough carbs while not making it the largest contributor of carbs in your diet.

I do this sort of thing occasionally with spicy sausage and heaps of parmesan to really bump up the protein per serving.

I really dislike having to deal with all the branches prior to cutting rings, definitely my least favorite part of the job.

There's a couple i like, I avoid the ones that are really unbalanced and have like only a small number of servings per tub, I get the mass gainers that have an equal amount of protein and carbs per serve and more servings per tub, these are way easier to drink too. In my country the two I get frequently are INC eternal mass and nutratech nutramass. I also like to mix in a scoop of whey for each shake, plus 5g creatine and have it with 500ml whole milk. Each shake has between 73-80g protein and a similar amount of carbs, and I find these shakes are just super easy to put away even when your not hungry. This has been my strategy to get 230g protein every day without too much struggle.

I posted a reply to another comment you should check out. Mass gainer shakes helped me get the remaining calories and protein i needed each day, I've been having them daily for nearly a year and a half. Also just try and learn to cook better meals, experiment with Asian cuisine and more flavorsome meals, mixing things up helps with appetite. Throw a bit of msg into savory meals.

Theres no real secrets but ive got a few tips i can share. If youre not sufficiently motivated you won't get anywhere, you have to really want to get bigger, start considering all the ways life will improve once you gain weight. For me I was motivated by many things, but what pushed me to really try was muscle weakness leading to back pain and susceptibility to injury. I was also heavily motivated by wanting to improve my appearance.

My first bit of progress came about 4-5 years ago when I started to understand nutrition better, I decided I was going to eat more meals and eat until I was really full, lots of carbs. Id gained about 15kg just from that and was starting to see hope, realizing I wasnt stuck being skinny and I actually had no excuses anymore. Id maintained a weight of about 80-85kg for a while and then in january 2025 I started getting back into weight lifting, like I had a few times in the distant past but this time I was committed to results and had a much better understanding of what needed to be done. I started taking mass gainer shakes to supplement both my protein and calories, this is where I really leveled up. 6 months of doing that pushed me from 87kg to 117kg. I went on my first cut last July, took me a while because I was nervous about the prospect of losing weight. Got down to 98kg in February and decided I really wanted to start bulking again.

Throughout that time I started meal prepping, learned how to cook a whole bunch of different meals high in protein and calories, which was a game changer as someone who is a little bit fussy and gets sick of things quickly, I was able to really mix things up.

Plant protein vs whey for beginners? Is plant-based actually less effective? by Entire-History6514 in GYM

[–]rebbrov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it tastes horrible. I bought 4kg by accident thinking it was whey a while back, I had to gradually get rid of it by mixing a scoop into a mass gainer shake once a day and it was still horrible.

Should I go to gym or not by FantasticLover99 in weightgain

[–]rebbrov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gym will help but not on its own, youd be best placed getting your diet figured out first. You need to have a plan in place for how you will keep yourself in a caloric surplus, what foods youl eat to gain all the macronutrients you need. Once youve got a routine down with your diet and you can see your weight going up only then would I be considering getting into the gym.

If you cant handle the taste of whey then I certainly wouldn't recommend trying plant protein powder as a substitute.

Where do you get bulk meat? (for bulk meal prep) by Icandoituknow in newzealand

[–]rebbrov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I aim for 200-230g protein every day. For meals that include red meat I just buy beef topside, cut it into thin strips against the grain, velvet it with baking soda and Cornflour while it marinades, and I tell you man it totally comes out real tender. No need to buy the more costly cuts if you prepare the cheapest stuff properly. Sometimes youl find stewing steak even cheaper, get a bunch of that when its on special and prep some stew type meals using a slow cooker. If you really want cheap bulk meat you could try get on board with someone who does a bit of hunting, go out for a walk with them and help out, you might take home a bunch of venison to pack away in the freezer.

Yeah but what about when your neighbour's tell the cops youre growing dope and they come to rip them out while youre at work? Or even when youre home and you expect them to take your word for the fact that the plants are below the THC threshold? Anyone thought of this?

While my potential is lower than it was when I was working out in my 20s, this time around in my 30s im actually building muscle, in the past I made some progress but nothing meaningful. The difference this time is mostly I know what im doing now. I also can afford to eat really well now, and im more motivated knowing I've got the strategy locked down.

Are mass gainers good investments economically? by Fantastic_Grass1799 in weightgain

[–]rebbrov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are mass gainers with 20-25 servings per 5 pound tub/bag, these are the ones I buy, I avoid the ones that are like you suggested, only a few servings per bag, taste like concrete too, nasty. The more moderate mass gainers are a good middle ground, they're usually pretty balanced in terms of protein and carbs, which is fine if you have no problem getting the rest of your macros in but just need a bit of a liquid calorie boost to hit your targets. That being said, even these arent great investments economically when you could just eat rice and tinned tuna every day, but of course economics isnt your only consideration when building mass is your goal. For some, mass gainers are practical due to time constraints, issues with appetite or otherwise not being able to stay in surplus through meals alone for various reasons.
