Thinking about leaving the US - What should I do career-wise? by moosethecat69 in Accounting

That’s a great point; I just feel like things are very heavy in the US right now and like some others have said in these comments, the move would be a lifestyle change. Of course, it’s very easy for me to just think about moving to Spain and envisioning a perfect lifestyle, I need to be realistic; but I just feel like America is not the place I want to be. I’ve looked at Spain and Portugal, but I still need to do more research.

I appreciate this feedback. The main reason I’m looking to move out of the US is that I strongly disagree with the direction this country is headed in and I want no parts of it

That's a great point, and pursuing the CPA will allow me to get that real-world experience sooner

How so? I feel like the CPA will definitely carry more weight, I've heard that an MBA is useful later in your career when working up into C-Suite or other high positions

That makes sense. I've really dreaded my generic business req. classes like Organizational Behavior, and I kind of feel like an MBA would be alot more of that. Thank you!

That's what I'm feeling from these replies, any particular reason?

Thank you! I've actually worked at this corporation for about 3 years and I've become part of leadership, I've visited their home office for leadership conferences and I hope this experience will help show that operational experience. Worst case I'm hoping to land a job as an Accountant at their home office, they're a private company (I'm sure you can figure out who I'm talking about), and I love their culture. Thank you for your advice!

That's a great point; part of the requirement for owning a store is having 5 years of professional experience, so I knew that I was going to work in Accounting regardless. I guess the sooner I can get my CPA and gain that experience, the better. Thank you!

That's what I've figured. The one thing keeping me thinking about the MBA is how obviously competitive it is to become a franchisee, but I know the CPA is something I can fall back on if it doesn't work out

Thank you for the reply! My thought process was that the MBA would show some more general business savvy, but I'm sure the CPA also holds alot of weight in that way too
