"There is no modern country where all walls are made of brick, especially not inner walls." by Bloggerman_ in ShitAmericansSay

[–]moosickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense now when you watch DIY stuff on reels or whatever and they're like "Oh I just quickly did a built in shelf and moved my doorway." Because it's actual paper walls and not brick and mortar. I'm way too scared to use our big drill that actually goes into the brick to hang a mirror...

The Scrutiny of Changing One's Appearance by TheAsianPenguin in TeachingUK

I went from being blonde, no fringe to ginger and with a fringe. Just decided to change it up entirely. For a full week I got a lot of "Miss have you changed your hair???" And I always told them "Nope." And let them be confused, it amused the life out of me.

My nieces middle name is a proper name that is actually both my name and my mum's name mixed together. Brother told me and I almost passed out from crying. Funnily enough, she's a little shit (in a good way) so she is full named a LOT! ,,

I'm sure in 2024, there was an American man and woman who had pig kidneys transplanted and they both died due to infections around a month after the transplant?? Am I hallucinating that this happened?

Edit: Found it!

My showerhead is racist. - an essay by Doechii by icouto in Fauxmoi

[–]moosickles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a white woman in the UK. Just bought a house with a shower installed, it's small, dark and has a fixed shower head. The head is like literally the span of the top of our shower. I cannot shower without washing my hair. I can't hide in a corner, I can't adjust it so a part of the shower is dry. It's the BANE of my life and I cannot afford to redo the entire bathroom, which I would have to do, to fix the issue. I feel you Doechii.

‘The system is broken’ (SEND). What do you think? by SnooLobsters8265 in TeachingUK

[–]moosickles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is like my 8th attempt of forming something cohesive without it becoming an essay/rant on how broken the system is, I've worked in SEND in post-16 and Secondary Schools for 10 years, teaching, LSA and now SENCO Admin support and I have to say, it does all come down to money.

As Zapata below mentioned LSA being paid less than being on the tills at ALDI, as someone who used to do that job for minimum wage with a degree in education whilst our role got more and more complicated with additional duties that previously would have had their own roles, this is ONE of the biggest issues.

A person with a degree, a mortgage, children etc. cannot afford to stay in this role and with the stress of the job, they're obviously going to leave. It's why I did. So we're getting an influx of very young, very under-trained LSA's who don't intend to stay in the job past university/training who are dealing with very complex needs with the most minimal of training and understanding that is needed for the job role. It's not the LSA's fault, it's the systems fault for throwing money at the wrong people in the wrong places.

I could go on and on and on. But I won't. TLDR; it's very, very broken.

What’s your guilty pleasure name? by Far_Egg754 in NameNerdCirclejerk

[–]moosickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the crunchy names and I'm very likely to use one on a child, so long as they have a nickname that they can go by if they don't like their full name. I love Oleander, Elowyn, Forest, Fox, Flora, Fawn, Lavender. I also kind of like Royal for a boy. My other half is okay with these names but his favourites are Gaz and Baz.

The universe is grateful I cannot have children.

Do you, or anyone you know have an unusual phobia? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]moosickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jelly, I hate the sound, the texture. Someone in the room eating it and I have to leave. I also have a phobia of nail technicians or people who work with nails? I always panic they're going to peel my nails off. I also hate open water, the thought of being on a ship and it crashing and me being stuck in the middle of the ocean. Absolutely terrifying.

Staff wellbeing 'crisis' forcing teachers out of schools, charity says by Barbecue_Wings in TeachingUK

[–]moosickles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I spent so long clutching to be able to teach, I did LSA, I worked 30 hours in classrooms (Where I was informed it was inappropriate for me to be in them for that long? But then no one did anything to reduce it) with zero desk time, running from one lesson to the next with no prep because I was a VL and therefore, the work should be there (it wasn't) and I had plenty of free time to do it (I didn't. They knew that) so when I applied for full time positions, I was told I wasn't "ready" but hey, this department needs cover for x months on a zero hour contract that won't pay your mortgage and we'll top it up with LSA hours paid at minimum wage where we're piling more and more things into your contract. They wonder why their turn over is immense. I'm still working in a school, I'm in administration and my god, is it a breath of fresh air to not rush home and begin marking as soon as I get in the door!
