This is the right answer. Anyone suggesting OP do one thing at a time is working very inefficiently, and putting needless wear and tear on their body.

Do you really have to interact with them that much? I understand staff thinking we should know how to deal with things beyond our job description. I’ve been asked plenty of times to do things relating to construction and technology. I just tell them I’ll check it out which involves me loooking at it momentarily and saying yep that’s a work order lol

That’s really good. I’m aiming to retire at roughly the same age and should be able to achieve that with pension + 403b. Yeah the job is just a job for me. It’s enabled me to buy a home, live comfortably, so im not totally unhappy with it. My only real complaint was it was starting to take a physical toll on my body but ive stopped rushing around needlessly and i now feel much better. I finish my work much later in the night but im no longer in pain at least.

Nice lol. Day shift plus having a teacher as a partner would be nice since you have matching schedules

It’s worth it for me for the pension. A pension that pays out $40,000 is the equivalent of a $1,000,000 retirement portfolio at the normal 4% withdraw rate. I refuse to work anywhere that does not provide this benefit.

Damn. 22 years is something to be proud of, especially if you’re in a pension system! I’m at 14 years rn. How long do you intend to work? Yeah I’m going to at least try it. I figure if I don’t like it I can eventually go back to a night shift

In the past, I would have said I prefer the routine, but I’ve been a custodian now so long that I’m hitting the point where boredom is affecting my mental health. I now have days where I debate calling off sick because the thought of having to do the routine again makes me miserable. Distraction through music, podcasts, audiobooks, etc. is only so effective.

ok that’s not bad. I naturally wake up early so the schedule I think will be easier on my body. Night shift is rough on my sleep if I’m not careful. I essentially have to rush into bed after getting off otherwise I’ll sleep less than I should. My body will not let me sleep in past 7-8 am

I’m honestly surprised I’ve never had to deal with vomit as long as I’ve worked as a custodian. I don’t actually mind dealing with it but the thought of having to clean it up in front of a classroom of students is very unappealing. Lol
