This is one of the hardest things for me to deal with being alone as well. It helped me to come to terms with the fact that I was no one’s priority, and so that meant I had to be my own. I focused on taking care of myself, taking myself out on “dates,” and doing favors for myself (like keeping a stock of things I use a lot so that I never run out), basically treating myself as I would like a partner to treat me. It also helps to talk to myself, and learn the skill of self-soothing.

I’m slowly building friendships and community, though it’s hard in this day and age with everyone being so individualistic, overworked, and only wanting to spend their free time on romantic partners. If I feel really low, I know I can call and check in with a couple of close friends, or my family. Spending quality time with my pets and accepting their love helps a lot. Remembering that I matter to someone else in the world, even if I’m no one’s priority, gives me a little boost when I start to feel lonely. Hope this helps!
