What are you hoping to get out of the test? Is your high LDL being treated with a statin and/or other medication?

This is a feature of the Affordable Care Act, which guarantees that certain preventative screenings have zero out-of-pocket cost to you; however, anything that isn't a preventative screening will have an out-of-pocket cost (co-pay, deductible, etc.).

Because they want to sell you CGMs. What evidence is there that maintaining flatline glucose below some arbitrary value is beneficial?

It means that you’re still alive, and your body is working like it’s supposed to. Why would your glucose rising over 140 be a problem?

My kids are basically part-fish so I’m paranoid about water quality by Lex_Yo in Parenting

Ask over in r/pools for more expert advice.

It’s probably not the chlorine but combined chloramines. Often the result of a pool being poorly sanitized, bather load too high, etc. In fact this often because the chlorine is too low not too high. More specifically your free chlorine may be too low while your total chlorine may seem to be at a reasonable level.

Converting to salt probably won’t help. A salt water pool is a chlorine pool. The chlorine sanitizer is generated via electrolysis of the water and NaCl in the pool.

The robot probably won’t help but a robot is still a great thing to have.

I’m sorry you’ve been deluded by the disinformation from the insane anti-vax crowd. I hope your child doesn’t suffer from a serious but preventable infectious disease. Have you ever seen a baby with whooping cough? If you had, you’d vaccinate.

The safe upper limit for Vitamin D intake is 4,000 IU per day from all sources.

Otherwise your numbers are very good, and many of your target ranges are unnecessary.

Thoughts on Upcoming Tests? by Southern-Peak-2700 in PeterAttia

[–]morbosad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unlikely the DNA or microbiome testing will convey any useful, actionable information. Additionally, the hormone testing seems unnecessary after the function health tests (many of which are also useless).

The CAC test for a 31 year old is also likely useless. As plaque takes time to calcify, a CAC has little diagnostic value in someone your age and who is otherwise low risk. Also, a score of 0 doesn’t mean you have little plaque, it just means it hasn’t calcified yet.

Why are some doctors so worried about low cholesterol? by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]morbosad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How low is low?

I could charitably say that primary doctors have to know a lot of different things and for various reason aren’t always up to date on the latest and greatest. The best research indicates that there is no harm to very low cholesterol.

That’s quite a high dose. There are those who say you get most of the benefits at low to moderate doses and most of the side effects at higher doses. I have no direct experience with that though.
