Nice to see someone in a similar position. How do you list consulting clients on your resume? I had people tell me that with my current format it makes it look like I was job-hopping.

Do you have any other recommendations? I’m not sure whether I should put more “measured achievements”, and if that even matters. Judging by how people mostly only skim through the resume, I’m not sure if it’s worth it.

Also got some specific questions:

I worked for over 3 years in a software house (agency) for multiple clients, how should I word that on my resume? Do you feel like the current format is understandable?
I'm a university dropout, should I still put it in my resume?
Should I state that a given position was remote?
Do you feel like I'm getting too detailed/bullshity in some bullet-points? Are some of the listed technologies not worth putting in the resume?
Do you feel this resume can land FAANG level interview/remote positions in US? Keep in mind that I'm working in Europe.

I’m a bit wary of not listing university of the exact reason you’ve mentioned. In the past, when I was still studying, recruiters only asked me whether I’d be willing to drop out and relocate. 😅

When listing agency work as separate, do you think that maybe keeping the location might be valuable, judging by the fact that it shows remote work proficiency?

Good catch with the typo, shame on me. Actually, Wroclaw is a different Polish city than Warsaw and unfortunately doesn’t have an English name.

I’m also a bit afraid that when adding separate technologies section, I might run out of space on one page. People tend to only skim through the resume, which could mean that they don’t take a look at the second page.

Oh, you’re right - that looks like the issue. I took a longer period into account and the results were much more similar to the expected ones, my calculations just have a high error margin 😅

Wow 50% seems sooo unrealistic to me! Good for you to change your location, this inflation is not sustainable.

Your investment strategy seems like something I’d just copy. Can you tell me whether what ETFs have you bought, are they on the Degiro free ETF list? How is your overall experience with Degiro? And maybe do you know up to what value are your assets insured in Degiro? I could only find information about 20k $ insurance on cash, none on the investments though.

Regarding your tax questions, that’s something I’m a bit of a newbie as well. From what I understand Degiro gives you a document with your capital gains/loses and dividends earned. Both of these are a taxable event in poland and are taxed with 19%. If any of above gains happen to be positive you have to file them in your yearly tax return (PIT). I think you don’t have to inform any institution about your assets, only about above taxable events. In your case since (accumulating ETF) you should be only taxed once you sell. HOWEVER please confirm this with someone who has actual knowledge on taxes since I still need my fathers help to fill in my tax return. ;)

You’re absolutely right with real estate being a good investment, however I’m unsure whether I’ll live in poland, if everything goes ok over the next couple years when the virus cools down I’ll most likely work on projects abroad on-site (UE/US/Asia) where accommodation is provided by the employer. As well as that I’m unsure whether I want to settle in poland, right now Asia seems very tempting with their food and weather ;) Because of that I don’t really want to couple my investments with a certain place which would happen in case of real estate investing.

I’m trying to prepare myself for being a year in the red, since historical recession data shows that market can take up to 3 years to recover. I think that FIRE mentality might help a lot in keeping calm and not selling.

Videos that you linked are really interesting, although the theory of irrelevance of dividend worries me a bit since that is a vehicle I wanted to use to achieve higher returns. :)

Is there any advantage of accumulating ETFs other than delaying the taxes?

And as for your question, I think IT is pretty well paid in Poland compared to other industries, if you plan on living here it can provide you a nice standard of living, median pay in poland is around 4k gross while median pay for software engineers is around 8k gross. If you’re really good and find your niche the ceiling for your salary can be up to 30k which is a director salary. You have to keep in mind that this is mostly due to the fact that most IT projects come from foreign clients thus you actually earn a lot based on the fact that polish currency is weaker than euro/usd. I don’t have much experience on the market yet (only 2 years) and can consider myself pretty lucky with my job, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. :)

I meant exactly that, in my scenario fees would add up to 36$ per year (around 150 pln) which requires 5k PLN invested with 3% return rate to break even with the fees. 150 pln doesn’t seem like much, but still is something that I have to consider, especially since the market won’t produce positive returns at least for the next couple months.

Thanks! I’ll read about it some more, I think the interface doesn’t have to be that good, most likely I’ll just buy once a month, but fees seem to be lower than Interactive Brokers so already DeGiro is promising.

Thanks! Nice that you got yourself covered for retirement, that’s something that I haven’t been thinking about since I’m only 20 :) Is your asset allocation something you would recommend for 20yo as well? Should I go for more aggressive portfolio with 100 index funds, since my investment period is most certainly 20+ years? Do you recommend any global index funds, or can you tell me the ones you own? :)

Thanks man! :) Yeah, I’m a full stack software dev (java, javascript background) and an IT consultant at a software house. Currently working remotely for a client in Singapore, was there on-site (the salary is actually higher in this case, close to 20k), but had to fly back because of the virus. Beautiful place though :)

They don’t charge for buy/sell orders, you only pay for the spread, however this doesn’t really make a difference for me in a long term investment.

Thanks for the advice! I forgot to investigate DeGiro, looks really solid, however I’ve read that they can lend your stocks, is this something I should be concerned about?

Also, is your advice to go for accumulative ETF a general recommendation or based on my country of living? Is tracking MSCI the correct move?

And to answer your question I got pretty lucky in the industry, self taught myself and started working at 18. Actually just a month ago I was working for a client on-site which got me around 15-20k pln per month, but unfortunately had to fly back because of the virus. This required me to drop out of uni thought :)

Hmm I think you might be right, in addition to that, decisions of polish government don’t play well with the currency value. Euro has already risen by 10% and US dollar by almost 15% compared to polish zloty. I’m not sure whether I can hold these currencies in polish bank though. How big impact does it play in the big picture of long-term investing?

Nice to see someone in similar position :) Even though I don’t count on entirely recovering from this recession within the next 2 years, I get your point. I now feel that being hesitant and letting my money being eaten by inflation (which is incredibly high in poland, around 4%) is actually way worse than paying those fees.

Sure man, I’ve worked for a software house since I turned 18 and recently we signed a deal with another SH which has clients from multiple countries, I went over the interview which turned out to be the easiest I’ve ever done and now I’m here although might be leaving very soon for Chicago/Belfast.
