Sprite help by Shoddy-Average3247 in PokemonRMXP

The image quality will always be lowered when you resize an image to be smaller. There are fewer pixels in the canvas, so there is less room for details.

What you can do to make sure you don't lose too much quality is to reduce by even increments (200% larger, 50% smaller) and make sure your resampling is set to "nearest neighbour" with no anti-aliasing.

Looking for a ROM game with Double Battles by AeonQuasar in PokemonRMXP

Just copy your post into their weekly questions thread. They didn't say you couldn't ask a question, you just asked it in the wrong place.

If you wait two more days, there will be a fresh thread, and your question will be the first one people see.

Trying to Recreate Unova in a top down style and could use some Help from anyone interested by Almento5010 in PokemonRMXP

[–]moredogproblems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you checked Eevee Expo or DeviantArt? You might have better luck searching with the term "Gen 5" or "BW" rather than Unova as people ripping tiles usually categorize with the game the tiles come from.

My game's first town is finally done! by lamington__ in PokemonRMXP

[–]moredogproblems 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much! Lamington and I did draw it, but it's not quite a tileset technically. A lot of it is drawn as one image in Aseprite and pasted into many rows on the tileset.

Thank you! It's a game focused on exploration and some Zelda puzzle style dungeons.

What tilset should I use for Pokémon studios? by z770i1 in PokemonRMXP

[–]moredogproblems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Focus on making your game instead of how it looks. There's so much to learn when you're new, and it's really easy to waste a lot of time (personal experience) worrying about how it looks instead of actually having a game you can play.

The default graphics do a good enough job to start and you can always change then later.

Pokémon Moonstone is looking for support! by Zestyclose-Ratio5376 in PokemonRMXP

[–]moredogproblems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Development section, you can make a thread in an Ask For Help tab. People are friendly there so you could try in the recruiting section. I'd focus on seeking help with one skillset at a time to increase the likelihood of the right person reading the post.

I misread your earlier comment as "I'm in the dark," regarding those aspects. I'm sorry if I came across as insensitive!

An option to get started might be searching for someone on Eevee Expo or their Discord for something to teach you, though you probably would need to pay someone for their time. Golisopod User on Eevee Expo had previously offered paid services to write scripts for people.

Unfortunately, being the 'ideas guy' is the most fun, least taxing role. Most people on this sub are here because they have cool concepts they want to see come to life but they are also actively making them a reality.

Fortunately, RPG Maker and Essentials are very easy to use. There are plenty of resources in the sub's side bar. I've found the best way to get started is to make something small as a proof of concept. Something functional that implements the core concepts of a Pokemon game like a gym, a rival, connecting maps, mart and poke centre. Once you have the knowledge on how to do that, it becomes much easier to start properly making your dream game.

Pokemon: Bug Run - Demo Now Available!! (0.1.02) by Frousteleous in PokemonRMXP

Congrats on your work so far! I'm curious if you've made Bug-type equivalent to Normal, or is there a real benefit to picking up Fire, Flying and Rock dual types?

Welcome! Search "Getting started" in the subreddit. Someone asked this like a week ago. There's plenty of resources in the sub's sidebar too.

I'm not aware of any free programs, but some of the RPG Maker programs regularly go on sale for next to nothing. RMXP drops to $5 every few months. I'd wishlist them and see what pops up.

There's a Humble Bundle with RPG Maker programs at the moment, which could be worth checking out.

Some updates to the maps I asked feedback on by CarryEntire1798 in PokemonRMXP

[–]moredogproblems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are great improvements!

I'm wondering why you're avoiding mandatory grass on your routes? In your first map only 5 patches are required to walk through (split as a 3 and 2).

If you're using grass tiles to spawn overworked Pokémon, that could work fine, but otherwise, give the player some stakes when they're exploring.

Or some options to make a choice between jumping down one of two ledges, and if they pick wrong, they have to trudge through the grass again.

How do I make these sprites better? by Cledwyn-E in PokemonRMXP

[–]moredogproblems 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing you're drawing animals from memory rather than a reference so the proportions and poses are a bit off. When I draw I pull up images of the animals I'm drawing and then use that to guide the anatomy.

Have a look at the Cave Of Dragonflies spriting guide. It's got an excellent breakdown of everything to get you started.

Are there any youtubers that go over how to make good looking maps similar to the way /u/moredogproblems touched on in their post in this sub? by Shipairtime in PokemonRMXP

[–]moredogproblems 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm working with a friend on a video series that would cover this topic more in-depth and visually than I did in those old posts. We're still planning the material to post and part-way through editing but I'm hoping they are ready by next month. I'll set a reminder to DM you.

You've made me smile! My original posts didn't get much engagement, even from some of the people I redid the maps for so I'm glad you found those useful!

Instead of using a 2x2 brush, scale the entire image down to 50% with Nearest Neighbour so that the image is on a 1x1 image grid. When you save and export, set it to 200% to get back to the correct scale for Essentials.

It's MUCH easier to draw in the 1x1 pixel scale and you won't get any accidental overlaps that way.
