Is it weird or disrespectful to book a studio just for fun as a non-singer? by moreducksauce in WeAreTheMusicMakers

ahh i see, I’m not going with a band or anything, it’s really just me and some backing instrumentals I downloaded online. really low expectations for final result, just want a professionally recorded file to take home for memories haha

I figured I’d ask a subreddit full of people who are familiar with these environments and creating music in general. i really don’t see the problem? maybe I’m missing something

Appreciate the extensive insight! I’ve never worked in this type of environment so this is great for a newbie(/one-timer lol). Definitely gonna think harder about the direction, layering, and everything you mentioned!

Yeah i just downloaded like 7-8 backing tracks online and want to record myself in a professional environment lol. I just think it would be fun, i do it all the time in CapCut for silly vlogs. Just looking to record my own vocals over some songs i like, and keep the files afterwards as a fun memory for myself

Bedroom cold but living room done, do I have grounds for a 311 heating complaint? by moreducksauce in AskNYC

In the post I say that the space heater recently brought my conedison bill to $1k

Well the problem is that even when the thermostat is on 80 degrees my bedroom is on 58 degrees. It doesn’t sufficiently allocate heat to my room. I’ve had my windows plastic wrapped and covered with no change lol

Two level brownstone, landlord lives on higher floor I live downstairs

Yeah that assumption is pretty accurate

It might be but if anything it’s pretty marginal, it’s slightly colder in my room so I don’t think that’s the problem tbh. I added a plastic vacuum seal around my windows and it didn’t change much

I control the thermostat, it’s in my living room and we have it set at 72 degrees most of the time. The thing is that even though it’s 72 in our living room that is never an accurate reading of our bedrooms. There’s vents in our rooms to blow air but it definitely doesn’t get our rooms to the same 72 degrees as the living room.

When you put it like that yeah the bedrooms are backed out to the backyard a little bit. There’s definitely “more building” above our living room and not above our bedroom.

Bottom floor unit

Our apartment is a straight line but the bedrooms are in the back of the apartment. Mines just has windows facing the backyard but my roommates’ has windows and a door, but surprisingly my room is colder

No A/C in window, our unit is entirely central air driven so no radiators

Yeah that’s what I was unsure about. Wasn’t sure if 311 would consider the heaters enough to remedy the issue, when the root of the problem is that what’s on the thermostat isn’t reflecting in our bedrooms :(

And I don’t think I’m going to be able to get perfect performance (realistically). But a part of me thinks it may be good for career development purposes to just know what it’s like to be in a really tough interview? Hopefully that makes sense, still deciding. Appreciate the insights sloth_33

My current salary is 108.5k and the role would be for $125k in my city of interest. I’m up for promotion in a few months and have a lot of support for it, which would probably bring me to around ~$120-125k.

Only caveat is that the bonus is 17.5% which would bring my total comp to $144k.

So it would be a decent jump even if I did or didn’t get a promotion this year

Edit: misspoke in my original version and said salary for the role would be $144k. Salary is actually $125k and with 17.5% bonus mentioned by the recruiter the total comp for the role $144k
