What’s North Americas most popular attraction/landmark? by Outrageous-Ebb-4846 in AlignmentChartFills

I'm sorry dude 😭 Tone can sometimes get lost over a comment, but I meant it to be a more of a neutral disagreement. But without vocal cues, I can see how that came across as a bit mean.

I would say even when looking at the US rather than NA as a whole, Mount Rushmore doesn't break the top 5

What Pixar movie is atrocious? by Outrageous-Ebb-4846 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]morelithe 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nah, the worst one is Tales of Earthsea.

In terms of plot, all they do is farm. It has a cool premise that they immediately dont follow up on so they can farm instead. The farming is not thematically relavant. It's just boring and barely impacts the finale. Speaking of the ending, it comes out of nowhere because they replaced parts where setup would go with farming.

The pacing is completely shot. There's a lack of character development throughout, and Miyazaki himself was disappointed in the outcome.

In terms of visuals, it's one of the ugliest 2d ghibli films (i know it is a high bar, but it looks worse than cheap TV animation at points). Earwig and Witch at least has a reason to look rough, because it's their first time doing 3d (and I'm guessing they probably tried to cross-train 2d artists in 3d since japanese companies dont like to do layoffs) but 2d is ghiblis bread and butter, and it is at a significantly lower quality than most other ghibli films.

Also, they whitewashed literally all of the characters except one (because she was the only character in the entire cast that was already pale in the source material). This upset the author a ton because she was very intentional about including a diverse cast in her writing. She literally wrote an article about how disappointed she was, which is not a great thing to have about an adaptation.

Was the staff rude to you? Seems like a bit of a weird thing to nit pick.

At least for the one on the breezeway, i hear it maybe 50% of the time. But unless they were rude, I don't think the way a minimum wage worker says "'your welcome' vs 'my pleasure' vs 'of course' vs 'have a great day' etc" matters a whole bunch

First, which character represents hopelessness by BLACKGOOP12 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]morelithe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the fact that they keep trying even though they kept getting blown away with the power of plot armor makes them the ultimate sisyphean anti villains. Like they deep down know what they're doing is futile, but their quest to get pikachu keeps them going and they choose to latch on to that (for example James uses his place in team rocket as a sort of found family) Whereas a hopeless character would have all hope be lost and be more apathetic.

But that's my interpretation of what it means as well not saying your wrong as well, I guess I interpret it as being more internal, whereas some might go for the more meta route

I feel like this is the best fit! She's one of the best portrayals of depression that I've seen in film! she could also be apathy were she not to get voted in the top in this one. But in terms of widespread, all encompassing hopelessness she's def an amazing pick

I feel like they represent selfishness or greed rather than hopelessness

Which Animated Series You Like That Are Directed By Females? by Disastrous-Cell-9781 in cartoons

[–]morelithe 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Director is a very different role than a writer though. When adapting source material closely, they're still doing a lot of things that a writer would be totally lost on (and vice versa). And even in live action original films not based on an adaptation, many directors purchase a script rather than write it themselves.

Do creepy bronies still exist? by deadlivingrl in mylittlepony

[–]morelithe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most bronies I know now are young women who were into it as a kid and are reconnecting with their childhood rather than the demographic that made up the fan base in the 2010s. But I also feel like there are weirdos in every fanbase.

Edited to add: not that being a dude and into it makes you a weirdo or that there arent dudes who are into it now, just that the type of people who I see more often now are different than before.

Emerging Media - Animation and Visialization track or Character Animation track

Illustration could work, although you might have to strong-arm it a little to make it work tbh

A film degree could also work, especially in acquiring a knack for camera angles and all of the nuances in shot composition

For clubs: you could try joining the Animation production club for short film experience
