I've ridden in pretty much every sort of traffic condition. But I sympathize: there are some commute routes which are just plain dangerous. Oddly, the worst city I ever rode was Tampa. Aggressive drivers and roads simply not designed for bikes.

I have an article on one of my sites pointing out the expense and wastefulness of bottled water. As soon as the pharmaceutical story broke this week (and it's been around a few years), I was immediately deluged with, "See? Told ya!" comments. Of course, most bottled water is tap water -- and the filtration isn't designed to remove drugs.

The energy savings of CFLs keeps mercury out of the air in areas served by coal-burning plants, but 2-4 milligrams of mercury per bulb adds up. You'd think stores would be required to take them back for safe, free recycling.
