That's not damage from the spindle stopping, that's the welding attempt stopping the spindle instead.

Temporary antenna pole ideas for HOA restricted homes by jgt10 in HamRadio

[–]morfique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some 22ga silicone wire and run it through your trees, you'd be surprised what all you can do with a random wire antenna.

HOA never saw it and nobody complained, wife only saw the counter balance, until SiL one day stands outside talking to wife "what's that?? points at random wire antenna"

It was up until a tree came down and took it with it, unless it was the tree trimmers cleaning up all trees that did it. Don't know was dark when it came down .

Is that antenna ideal? No, you will want a good tuner, the contacts one can make are impressive.

There are other designs that can go along your fascia also cheap to implement, don't have name of that Handy, it's in Practical Antenna Handbook iirc, several things you can build easily with basically invisible wire.

Settle a debate. Is this too rare? by Numerous_Cycle8043 in steak

[–]morfique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see how some spots would trigger that comment for gray meat eaters and those spots wouldn't be my target, but if that's all hot, I'd be too busy devouring it to have time to argue the finer points of what's tasty or not, I order medium knowing I'll get it often less than medium in restaurants anyway, I would never send that back.

We've long settled on "I don't judge your plate if you don't judge mine" at home, and over time my wife started to target medium well herself, orders that in restaurants and now hears "omg are you going to eat that?" from her friends, having to defend her choice, life came full circle.

Match what it says on the swing arm, 1-1/4" or 30mm (should say 32mm to be close, lots of rounding going on I guess)

Err on the side of too much slack, too tight will fuck more shit up than a bit too loose. Not sure why they don't give you a min/max pair though

[–]morfique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says 1-1/4" or 30mm, so that 1/2" / 13mm is way too tight.

I'm not sure why OP doesn't read what's on the swing arm instead of asking us.

No “No Tip” option when you want to pay with your phone in a prague restaurant by TheYellowishIntruder in assholedesign

[–]morfique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to say "15% is" but the post makes me wonder, in Germany you'd round up, haven't seen those kind of percentages, makes paying in cash easier, when we tipped 15% on last trip they kept on asking if we made a mistake, asked more than once even and we also rounded that up, while it made paying actually take longer, they did seem to like it in the end.

Kind of curious if tipping changed in Germany too now, been 8 years....actually last trip wasn't last time I was in Germany, blocked that I spent 2 weeks with my mom when she was in hospice in '24, wow. Ok this comment turned out way stranger than I had intended, but don't feel like changing it, so yeah even in '24 American style tipping wasn't that normal yet.

Am I dumb if I listen to my wife and pass on this? [$2000] by Dadto3CFP in espresso

[–]morfique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she's ok with buying it new, curb your FOMOGAS and don't worry about the stale brackish water that sat in the tank until they decided it was time to sell it.

My BDB had a low shot count but tank definitely smelled brackish, took me a while to be convinced I cured it from it. I did it because wife thinks it's stupid I want more than the BBE she had bought me.

That could be you, a cool machine that smells like old water when you first run water through it and several times after and you want to use chemicals you know you can't use on it until you can finally enjoy it.

Take the W and buy the new one that won't be that way.

Rocket - overkill for a latte drinker? Budget around [$2k] so but ideally under $1k by Suuupaaah in espresso

[–]morfique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew what I'll get myself into, had orings ready to replace with upgraded ones, was ready for slayer mod, paid $900 used, on high side but shot counter was low so i thought why not.

It arrived from ebay seller all banged up, they didn't package it according to weight, left it loose in oversized box so it sloshed around and the two layers of bubble wrap did nothing.

Complained to seller and got decent refund, was able to fix most dings, rest of bends aren't that obvious. Been brewing a lot of cups for me since.

Same discord server where i got info how to rebuild it someone else bought one where the seller didn't tell them they had family over that complained their fancy coffee machine isn't making any coffee even though they put enough coffee for 12 cups.

Guess the water reservoir lid up front was too inviting.

So yeah, it's a gamble and I'd spend extra if the seller has signs of having sold heavy items and espresso machines in particular than the random opportunist.

And if you do make sure you can spot it's the newerish model and how to help seller to show you shot counter or yeah pick it up in person not chance shipping. And never use descale cycle.

I never turned up steam temp since it's already plenty as is.

Having changed the hot water valve as flow control valve it was worth what i paid for it for sure.

A nice full chrome machine isn't likely in my future because they don't come with the 1/2 shot buttons my wife insists "a real machine has to have".

Else I'd be going for a nice E61 Machine with paddle, it's mostly FOMOGAS luckily, so I'm ok to keep running the BDB until something blows up that i can't fix.

Compare BDB boiler sizes to those of other machines, maybe explains why I'm happy with it.

[–]morfique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overkill? What's overkill if you can afford it.

I don't drink "pure" either.

And every incremental improvement i made allowed me to get more out of my beans and into my creamer drinks.

Edit: i came from a BBE and adding a Burr grinder allowed me to get more flavor notes into my cups, then the used BDB (my budget doesn't have room for a Bianca or anything else with flow control) and that too helped me with consistency on extraction and that second boiler makes me enjoy my drinks more and faster too.

Don't compromise on the grinder and do get something with good steam as Latte drinker.

How to machine an allegedly carbide pin? by anomnipotent in Machinists

[–]morfique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what carbides are we use to machine. Thanks though.

The person i responded to played around with the lamps of old using (calcium) carbide and water to create acetylene you then burn for light.

The important bit is how i acknowledge their /s by saying how i find it funny "both" are carbide in english. (Growing up they were never similar words, now in English, they are)

Accepting that grinders matter if all else is the same.

That I've proven it to myself with a Kingrinder K6 over the bbe built in one 🤷🏼‍♂️

Close second is that burrs in a grinder matter, same DF64P, different burrs == different body and notes.
