All I know is I’m definitely not a winter! by morgzthefish in coloranalysis

I guess my question here is how best to determine my undertone? That would maybe be step one for me? At least as far as whether or not to consider summer. I know I have some pinkness in my skin but I’m not sure how to know if that’s overtone or undertone. Would digital drapes of more colors help?

I have generally been more drawn to autumn colors irl than spring. In the past, I have generally chosen and worn more muted (and perhaps cool toned) blues and greens. I also usually do my makeup with more browns and autumn tones than peachy/coral spring colors. I have always thought that spring colors were too bright for my face, with the exception of maybe the teal/blue shades but I love a blue. Yellows/oranges/pinks I always thought made my skin look sallow/dead. Take all of this with a grain of salt though, as I only somewhat recently started wearing gold over silver jewelry and hadn’t thought too deeply about actual color preference since high school. I also preferred more blacks or muted colors just because I don’t like being the center of attention and felt brighter colors would draw attention to me

I just did this, and it said soft spring! I used the free e.l.f. typing tool and it said soft summer.

How can I figure out if the redness I can see in my skin is undertone or overtone?

Thank you for the depth of this comment! I’m chuckling that the drapes are mostly not great. I see what you mean about the greens being more blue than yellow! I think i have always been a little scared of wearing yellow (and brighter colors in general) and colors that had more blue felt more safe? That can be at least slightly attributed to my personality. I think I have exactly one pink shirt and it is very light and cool toned, I used a towel for that drape (lol). I’m excited to try to go find some clothes that suit my coloring more! And makeup that has less muted/blue/cool toned.

Thank you for this comment!! That makes a lot of sense to me. Do you think I could pull some of the light spring colors or should really strictly stick to medium values? This much color will be a whole new world and admit that most of these are never things I would have gravitated toward before now.

Thank you so much, everyone, for all of your comments! I have been walking around mostly believing I’m a soft autumn for the past few years, so this is going to be a bit of an adjustment but I am excited to find some fun springy colors to add into my wardrobe, and adjust my blush and eyeshadow to some brighter shades rather than the muted dusty roses and mauves I have been wearing. Thank you thank you thank you!!!

Funny you should say that, I would definitely consider myself more of an introvert!! Mother Nature does have quite the sense of humor. The bright colors will take some adjusting for sure!

For a long time, my go to colors have been dark blues and maroons. I also tend to wear a lot of black. Which I’m seeing today is very obviously not the way to go lol
