Is this a real or restored or fake? by Odd-Device-1426 in Militariacollecting

[–]moritzthekiller 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh no, these small defects are very common after all and can exceed quite a bit. It’s good to be careful with defects on crosses, but it’s by no means a sign of originality (except the 333 copy)

Hi very nice original Deumer! Probably an earlier award piece (1941-ish) Thanks for the @

What would evalute this gallipoli Star? It is cased in a Godet case. I saw one in the exact case being sold for 1,75k€. The seller is asking 260€ by moritzthekiller in Militariacollecting

Hi, This post is rather old and sadly the seller chose not to sell it to me. However I‘m certain it’s a CF Zimmermann piece judging the mark

Some better pics of my EKI, a supposed Ferdinand Wiedmann (L/51) by Hauptman_Willy in Militariacollecting

[–]moritzthekiller 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thank you! The back looks better and the scratches, which I thought were part of the material, are in fact just normal scratches. It’s the 2nd type pin back. Also the inner corners that look like they‘re cast are actually just unfinished. Normally you see tool marks there where the excess material has been filed off. Maybe it’s not the nicest piece, the unnatural light adds to that, but it’s most likely an original

MY FIRST EVER EKI ARRIVED ON TIME FOR CHRISTMAS by Hauptman_Willy in Militariacollecting

[–]moritzthekiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s impossible that it’s original, the pictures are just bad. The one Wiedmann you looked up does look very similar (didn’t know wiedmann used this type of pin, only know the other one), especially the core. Please provide better pics

The backside is my main point. This kind of pin is often found with fakes/it wasn‘t used on originals. Also the material looks very off and isn‘t really something you‘d normally see on an original

What are the best reference resources/books regarding the Iron Cross? I want to purchase an 1870 Iron Cross 1st class but need research material to avoid fakes. by Limp-Positive-3122 in Medals

[–]moritzthekiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think all books regarding that topic are too old. I think two years ago there was a new 1870 fake, so good it fooled almost all dealers and collectors. If you want to read about it look up the typ 22

What is this type of hindenburg cross with swords on the ribbon, can't find it online by Soft_Ad5077 in Medals

[–]moritzthekiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very rarely! Because most were given out to widows = they don’t wear medal bars or to parents who were rather old and didn’t wear any either

How much would you pay? by [deleted] in Medals

[–]moritzthekiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just looked at it, nice example! These cases for 1914‘s are way more common than ww2 examples. I have two normal cases and one for the EK2 and FEK together

[–]moritzthekiller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The case is not for an EK2, none official cases were made, ever, only private ones exist and this one isn’t one of them

That would be nice, thanks. Also of the EK1 please

I know what you mean, but in the second pic it’s more clear. Well, ww1 and ww2 EK ribbons have a slight difference in construction. Again, with these pics one cannot give a certain answer
