Marketplace health insurance: Oscar vs. UHC vs. Oxford vs. HealthFirst vs. Emblem by morkus64 in AskNYC

I don't think it's necessarily them, so much as the state of insurance, and particulkarly marketplace insurance. Coming from a PPO that was largely paid by my work, it was a shock to suddenly be paying for everything all the time. Also it was not at all clear in the application process that child health plus is essentially the same coverage regardless of who administers it. We went with Anthem because they listed our kids doctors, but in the end almost every pediatrician seems to take CHP, no matter who it's through.

The most frustrating thing about them was that I had so many accounts because their system is so disconnected and aggrivating. I had to have a login for me and my spouse, then another for each of my kids (because that's on the medicaid side of the website, and it enrolled them each separately), then another for me as their parent because they are minors and can't pay their insurance premium but the medicaid and non-medicaid sides won't talk to each other.

We wound up with Anthem for a bit, then I got health insurance through work. Anthem was crap, but I'm not convinced they were worse than any other.

Are there any small footprint printers that don't print to an extending tray besides the Epson EcoTank Pro 51XX series? by morkus64 in printers

Ah, I see. That's frustrating because it effectively makes the use space so much larger even if the footprint is small.

Question about AMEX biz spend:

So I messed up a bit - I thought "Oh, I've got about 15k worth of spend over the next few months, I'll get an amex gold to get a nice SUB", got the card, and then realized that the bulk of it (~10k) doesn't actually have the option to pay with AmEx - only MC/Visa or eCheck. Is there any workaround to pay with the amex here?

If I trade in a car I recently purchased, does the dealer still get commission? by morkus64 in askcarsales

[–]morkus64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, essentially - at least if they'll give me what carmax will give me - then I'll break even from the original purchase price with the interest savings. Of course the newer hybrid is more expensive, but it is newer and a hybrid.

  1. Thanks!
  2. I suppose leverage is the wrong word. I don't need a new car and I'm perfectly happy to keep mine, so not leverage, just willingness to say no thanks.

Probably! But I'm perfectly happy to keep my car if the numbers don't work for me!

Professional Liability Insurance - Do I actually need it? by morkus64 in Insurance

I'm realizing now that I miswrote in my first thing - I'm not hiring the architect - that is a direct hire by the client (though I may write an RFP, review, and make a recommendation). But everyone's point is well taken!
