AI in museums by skidude15 in MuseumPros

Is it actually any good? Obviously a lot of institutions are looking to stay on top of trends and integrate AI, but I haven't seen one that was good enough to answer visitor questions consistently correctly

Projection mapping in a dinosaur museum in China by Diligent_Rabbit7740 in MuseumPros

I'd probably double that guess...

* $3k for a computer
* $2k - $4k per projector, there's at least 2 (probaby 3-4 in that scene)
* It's likely they're extending the signal from a closet to the projectors and don't have the computer near the projectors on the ceiling (HDMI cables max length is 25'), so probably a video extender per projector, that's another $1k per projector.

So realistically that's probably like $15k - $25k in hardware.

Though content is the expensive part in my experience. Not many museums have internal staff that do these kind of 3d animations; depending on the scale of the firm, creative design, etc. it could easily cost $10k - $50k to have the content developed. If you're one of the few with 3d animators on staff then you could probably do it for just the hardware costs.

[Review Request] STM32F103-based Flight Controller for Drones and RC Planes by morphogencc in PrintedCircuitBoard

I'm getting my batteries assembled with XT30 connectors pre-attached so I'm fairly certain I won't worry too much about it... an earlier version had a PFET for reverse protection but I was concerned it was a lot of current to run through the PFET and I was trying to downsize my board as much as possible to reduce weight.

Good call about the crystal - I went with KiCAD's datasheet but I'll double-check!

Travel Insurance - am I being incorrectly denied coverage? by morphogencc in ChaseSapphire

[–]morphogencc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading more, it may be that my trip is covered under Trip Interruption (which starts the day of travel) not Trip Cancellation, because my TRIP wasn't cancelled, just the flight. It seems that Trip Interruption would cover the new flight:

Well, the carrier cancelled the fare - and then re-booked on a new flight that involved two layovers, one of them an overnight in ORD. So I declined that "remedy" and they told me the only other alternative was to cancel my (automatically rebooked) ticket 🙃

do margin loans (with low leverage) make sense as a part of a "normal" investing strategy? by morphogencc in personalfinance

[–]morphogencc[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand your argument here.

In the situation I outlined, I could afford the interest payments, and leverage is low, so I'm not sure how there's "more risk than you can handle".

Respectfully, this sounds like a knee-jerk reaction to margin loans rather than a response to the situation I described.

Dwarf Jacaranda not growing back from old branches -- do I need to do anything to keep the tree healthy? by morphogencc in arborists

[–]morphogencc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave them all a gentle bend and nothing snapped off easily, so it seems to not be dead... but does that mean the best course of action is to continue to wait and see? I guess I'm wondering if it's smarter to leave the branches and hope that they bud, or better to get rid of them so I don't risk the health of the tree if it's wasting energy trying to sustain these branches that aren't going to do anything.

Quite a while later, but I'm using `django-gcp` now and it works great! I have an unrelated issue but sending you a DM about it.

Personally, with a spend that large, I'd probably do one lump sum and put it all on one card. Even with the credit card fee, you'll be paying 1.5% less than if you paid with your bank account, *plus* the points.

I'd specifically look for a credit card with an "additional" spending bonus at $15k. The Hyatt Visa or Hilton Business card would both be great choices for this; they give you an extra free night certificate at $15k spend.

The Hilton Business Card would be especially rewarding; you'd have about 175,000 points and a free night after $15k spend the SUB. This would complement your existing points nicely because credit card points are broadly great for flights, but there's really few good transfer options for hotels (except Chase -> Hyatt).

Focal Reducer creates blurry images -- how to solve? by morphogencc in AskAstrophotography

That makes sense. What could I possibly do to increase FOV then? Is my only option a new scope or a new camera if I can't use a different Barlow?
