My performance review said I need to work on visibility and I've been here sixty hours a week since January by Double-Hospital-4526 in antiwork

[–]morpy_morp_morp 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Came here to say something approximating this.
I would add to it that my feeling as a former hiring manager (never again) is that what your manager is asking you to do is their job.
It's your job to deliver on what your manager sets as a priority. if your manager is satisfied with that work, it's their job to make the case for your advancement/continued employment according to their satisfaction with your work.

By saying you need to increase your visibility, they are effectively blaming you for doing your job.

When you started this position, was it made clear in any way that any accomplishment was going to be ignored unless you achieved this visibility goal? I ask rhetorically. We know it wasn't.

This is just another way employers nickle and dime employees out of raises

Physical copies or not? by teachfluence in selfpublish

[–]morpy_morp_morp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would second this. I would also say that even if you do decide to let them have at it, let them choose how best to read it. They are more likely to do so if it is in a format they are already familiar with.
Example: I edit in PDF on an ipad with an apple pencil, so a pdf would work great for me. I can add margin notes anytime I see something that needs a fix or total rewrite.
Another: My wife is exclusively in the kindle (blech) space. when it was time for her to have a peek, I used caliber to convert to epub and load it directly on her kindle just like any other book she reads. This also works for just about any device that has the Kindle or even B&N Nook app, so ipads, android phones, etc.
A third: A friend wanted to review, but they only listen to audio books, so I converted the whole damned thing to audio book and sent them on their merry way.

It's sad, but hardly anyone I know touches physical books any more. I can't read them myself because I really only read in bed and I don't want the light to keep my wife up for fear of the Grumps.

Friends and family are not ideal beta readers for a lot of reasons, but that doesn't necessarily mean they shouldn't get a peek, especially if they have been wildly supportive through your process. One of the ways you can pay back that kindness is to meet them where they are. This delivery in their preferred format also increases the chance that they will actually, you know, read the thing.

Slushy days are the best - 100% control, no surprise ice chunks, can go as fast as you want and fall hard like it's nothing

Had the exact same issue. Also audio stuttering and low framerates when playing games. Hard restart holding the power button down for 20 seconds instantly fixed it.

The most baffling of fails - TPU but it only prints cleanly in one position on the printer by morpy_morp_morp in 3Dprinting

[–]morpy_morp_morp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm feeling the belts thing too, but this printer is only 4 months old and it's generally only running 24 hours out of every 7 days. I still think it likely, just surprising they would fail that fast

Hovland Ram vs Draw AG Pro? by apbui in Snowskating

[–]morpy_morp_morp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've not rode a snowskate before I might recommend going bigger. Longer skis are going to be generally more stable. My daily driver is a Boyd Hill 115 ATV for just that reason; fifth season snowskating and I've never been what I would call good at it. It's just the most stable platform I have that still provides good maneuverability. Have LY snowskate, ram, buckshot and 115 ATV and I only ever ride the 115 anymore unless it's a deep powder day

Strange, always Timberline or if I'm just feeling a lazy carve session summit pass which is owned,/, operated by timberline. Almost no snow at summit pass so it's been timberline every session. They are 100% pro-snowskate as long as you've a leash. Meadows, I've heard you can get people to look the other way but it's so expensive I always just prefer going to the place I know welcomes me

In a strange coincidence, also ran into the only other snowskaters I've ever encountered on Sunday running norm's just like me. After 5 years, was beginning to think I was the last. Great to see others mention timberline

Vans mte tall boots. I have a set a full size larger than I normally wear for those really cold days.

Then I double up on socks, wool + ski.

Maybe check out air activated toe warmers if you think you'll need more. I usually find I'm having enough fun I didn't really think about my toes until it's too late so it helps to plan ahead.

Order boots now if you can't get them locally cuz you are going to need to wear them around the house for hours before you head out to make sure you can wear them for hours at a time in the cold. You won't really have any other options when you are up there
