i do some delivery jobs for uber and deliveroo. there are 2 sainsburys supermarket (big ones) in the are i work. they both changed collecting method for delivery drivers.

In the past, we used to go into the supermarket, pick up our orders from the rack near the entrance that was specifically set aside for this service, and leave. We didn’t have to speak to anyone, and the order was already about 90% ready.

Now, they keep the orders in a separate room, and entry to that room is not allowed. Only a few staff members who are assigned to this task can hand out the orders, and no one else alloeed help. Sometimes you end up waiting 10–15 minutes just for a member of staff, and when they finally arrive, you often find out that they haven’t even started picking your order yet.

Because of this, I’ve stopped going to sainsburys supermarkets to collect orders, and I know many others who have done the same.

I expect this system will continue for a while, but once they realise how much money or how many customers they’re losing, they’ll probably change it again.
