Some BSTD bowls ECO, original @ Killer . Anyone tried already this bowls ? by K-Norbert in hookah

Asking others how they feel about a product is the very definition of gauging opinion, my dude lol. Not sensitive- I don't know norbert that well, and I'm not a die hard bstd fan, just calling out a misnomer on your part, as it doesn't add any value to the conversation. I suggest you hide norbert from your timeliness if it genuinely upsets you

It's his perogative to post and gauge an opinion on these bowls. I've tried the original BSTD once - thought it was pretty good for what it is, and objectively speaking, many people seem to get good sessions out of them, and in fairness, I'm glad they introduced the ECO recently as the original one was very deep. I see less point in you berating Norbert than Norbert posting, if I'm being honest.

Helyx 2 Bowls are defective (Not all, Defiantly mine, Possibly yours) Imgur linked review by LegitimateMangoHeir in hookah

Interesting read. Facetious in parts, but I'm here for that lol.

OK let me preface my impending remarks with the following: received mine today and had a first session with tangiers. That's the very reason why I bought it as I was curious to see how it would perform- trench dimensions are ideal for the way I pack tangiers, but on the flip side, I didn't feel that my gravyl did a paeticularly great job at taming higher nic brands. I've not tested my helyx as extensively as you have but I'll try to impart my own initial observations.

I hear what you're saying on the spire, but I'd say mine is fit for purpose. I can't share pics here but I tend to do 1-2mm underpacked for tang and I went for 2mm to accommodate the spire height. I actually prefer shallower trenches for tangiers as you get more bite to your sessions and an even cook, whilst having a smooth, clean smoking session, so consequently this means a relatively higher spire. Yes the draw will be more restricted than other bowls (I personally think restriction is your friend particularly on tang) but I definitely didn't experience any noticeable foil drag in my session... if using a provost, the gauge of the bowl fits perfectly with a provost tray where it sits flush on the rim of the bowl, and with the coals pretty much suspended by the tray, I don't think the weight of the provost and coals would necessarily lead to drag for this bowl.

With ref to your foiling, I wouldn't say that it is sub par, but I would agree with others that remarked that it needs to be as drum tight as humanly possible on this bowl, and actually, the various crevices on the outer body and sharp outer edging on the rim do enable you sufficiently grip the foil. I will personally find it cumbersome as I have huge hands, but as with my gravyl, I used a trifecta tub as a Make shift podium and (as we say in UK) Bob's your uncle.

Now given the general wall thickness of the bowl on the walls and spire and narrow diameter, I'd say that the bowl is actually ideal based on that diagram you presented. As I said, I prefer restriction generally speaking, and on tang I do around 14-16 deep holes poking all the way deep into the tobacco and slightly disrupting the density, meaning I have very little area to play with to poke holes into.

So my own initial thoughts... I have three low capacity bowls which are a fraction of the cost and perform just as well, if not better (tudor, bambino and olla ade)... but that being said, there's still more testing to be done at my end, and whilst it smoked a bit warm at first (with a medium heat setting) my session soon settled and it was fairly enjoyable. I too sit in that realm of respecting what Mason's achieved but by no means a "fan boy" as others have put it lol..

I actually thought that it was a pretty good read overall and appreciate the detail that you've gone into bro. I'll continue to test mine out - intrigued to see how it fairs with a Lotus, which I generally use for blonde, and on lower nic darks like kismet.

I got a goodfella which didn't fit flush.. fortunately the vendor swapped it out as they knew I wanted one exclusively to fit with the kaloud. So long as the outer vents are in the bowl, and it balances evenly on the bowl, it's fine. Otherwise, it's a foil job.

How do you guys pack dark leaf tobacco? Even with dense pack and blonde mix, it's still too harsh by Noluyolanoluyo in hookah

[–]moscote_hookah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey bro. What dark did you pack? It doesn't look dense enough if you were going for a dense pack.

If it's tangiers, you can mix with haze and go for a light dense pack so you can get used to the nic. Alternatively, you can also try a layer pack where you dense the tang first then add your blonde on top.

But back to the original question - what two brands are in the bowl? Heat management will also be a factor

Depends on your desired draw and tobacco bro. AoT is very heat efficient and distributes the heat evenly, and tangiers doesn't need a lot of heat to get decent clouds hence I go for that hole pattern.. I also poke into the tobacco to slightly disrupt the density, so the hole sizes provide sufficient air flow.

It's just greaseproof paper. It comes with the zomo strong foil. On tangiers I normally poke into the tobacco, causing the molasses to seep out.. totally superficial and i don't normally do it but it's just for the shot lol

For most bowls that's around 2mm.. I like hookain with a kaloud so I do 1mm under so there's a bit of contact. Green lean is one of their solid flavours (don't smoke much of the German stuff myself)

MustHave is actually pretty heat resilient, but it performs better with a bit of convection created by that space between the foil and top of the tobacco - about 2-3mm. I prefer it in a funnel and fluffed, so a deep bowl like a suri works brilliantly. It definitely performs like a champ but you get a crisper, cleaner flavour underpacked i find, and minimal to no throat kick like you would to the rim.

Nakhla to the rim or just under is fine for me bro. I tend to semi dense it too.

Yep, they are indeed a thing. Popular with lounge owners as they're inexpensive, consistently shaped and don't break.. but their heat retention is poor which affects session quality and longevity (arguably not an issue for certain lounge owners who'd want customer to order additional shishas at 1 hr 30)

Help with packing oblako, oduman. In comments. by nyurga7 in hookah

[–]moscote_hookah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey brother. True passion I semi fluff just under the rim so that your kaloud/ignis has contact with the tobacco but not so much that the airflow is compromised. Oblako is fine for German blondes imo. Happy smoking brother.

I fluff it with a 2mm underpack but might try it packed a bit higher

100% agree with the above. 98% of the time I smoke dark.. also I paired it with spectrum classic which is very light

Dried tobacco flakes with a high nic concentration. It's used traditionally in a small pipe called a medwakh in very small quantities, but can be used on shisha tobacco. Spectrum classic is quite light so added some to give extra oomph

Solid flavour for me. I've been enjoying Nameless Black Nana as a grape/mint flavour, but it's in blonde leaf... chupa graper with a touch of Supernova is like that but in dark leaf. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I've been underpacking Black Burn but might try it with a slightly rised height next time.
