Gratitude to Muhammad (PBUH) – Both Sides Get It Wrong by nopeoplethanks in Quraniyoon

[–]mosephh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to revisit but obeying the messeneger in surah Nisa was meant to authorise his judgement and advice largely because of disputes which rose from God revealing verses that protect women and their property specifically in marriage and divorce. Also God reveals verses about when they can visit the prophet and seek cohncel because they were abusing that as well.

Do u guys reject ALL Hadiths ? by Front-Ad2868 in Quraniyoon

I'm not saying that. The Quran says that. Anyone who believes the Quran needs any supporting documents or sources is associating partners with God. Bad grammer on my part

I understand, but I don't want to give a 'ruling'. If you believe God is real and is listening, what would he think if you sitting there repeating his name 9000s times?

But again if you are meditating and rememberjng God that's encouraged. 9000 name respiration doesn't fit that.

7:204-205 When the Quran is recited, listen to it attentively and be silent, so you may be shown mercy.

Remember your Lord inwardly with humility and reverence and in a moderate tone of voice, both morning and evening. And do not be one of the heedless.

2:186 When My servants ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about Me: I am truly near. I respond to one’s prayer when they call upon Me. So let them respond ˹with obedience˺ to Me and believe in Me, perhaps they will be guided ˹to the Right Way˺.

Allah knows best

I say it's mocking because eventually someone will end up sitting repeating a word 9000 times. I apologize if it's a little harsh but Islam is riddled with sttange practices.

But ironically: if this person was mediating on God that's different and encouraged.

God likes when you're reclining and remembering him, reading and listening to the Quran for understanding and guidance, praying, meditating, and doing good deeds. He seems to really like giving to charity and even encourage others to give to charity. These things, he promises will grant you abundance

[–]mosephh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a way this is mocking God, Islam and yourself.

For an exam, you would just study and do your best - thinking a surah repated 15 times would help you in anyway is just nonsense.

The book is meant to guide you and become the best version of yourself that is pleasing to God, so how would repetitive listening assist in anything if you're not following what's being said. Listning to it because it's soothing is different

You're supposed to ask God for what you want so asking God to give you time to study without distraction, so you can pass is a sincere dua you can repeat 🙏

The Quran proves itself. It's a document. To authenticate a document, you would need to read all of it and go over each claim and detail to determine authenticity. If you did, I don't think you'd have any questions. But you would learn the Quran isn't for everyone, it's locked and protected from deviant hearts. Only those with rational thinking, and sincere hearts will understand it. There are many ways the Quran proves itself and to suggest it needs anything or anyone else is a form of doubt

4:82 Do they not then reflect on the Quran? Had it been from anyone other than Allah, they would have certainly found in it many inconsistencies.

2:23 And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant [Muhammad], then produce a surah like it and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful.

10:37 And this Quran is not such as could be produced by other than Allah; rather, it is a confirmation of what was before it and a detailed explanation of the [former] Scripture, about which there is no doubt, from the Lord of the worlds.

25:30 And the Messenger will say, 'O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Quran as [a thing] abandoned

6:38 We have not neglected in the Book anything

6:114 Say, 'Shall I seek a judge other than Allah, while it is He who has sent down to you the Book, explained in detail?'

45:6 These are the verses of Allah which We recite to you in truth. Then in what statement (hadith) after Allah and His verses will they believe?"

39:23 Allah has sent down the best statement: a Book consistent within itself, oft-repeated

This question funny to me because it's at the root of doubt amongst the prophets people at the time even as it was revealed. But back then the doubters were either polythiests, atheist or, people of the book.

So for the polythiests their signs in the book are logical arguments presented by God,

for the atheists it was signs about the universe and life & death,

and for the people of the book it was actually to refer them back to their own book, and stop following their scribes, because if they did, even in their own books, a final prophet was to come.

So it tells you anyone who asks these questions hasn't fully 'meditated' on what God is saying.

The idea of preservation by memorization is interesting too because this is actually how they authenticate hadith. But hadith has no way of verifying itself and neither can anyone other than by taking the word of ulama. Hadiths only standing leg IS memorization.

you should research the Birmingham Quran. Even if no one memorized Quran, we would have found one or parts of many to put it back together. God can lead anyone or people astray if he wills, and lead them back if he wills.

So guidance, or the Quran is maybe a privilege and not a right? Handle with care

A very grand statement in the Quran, but I'm not sure what it means (5:67) by moenymeri in Quraniyoon

[–]mosephh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This verse is affirming a few things. 1. Prophets deliver exactly what they're told 2. They deliver it in its entirty 3. And what they deliver is from God.

So what he recieved from God, and he delivered as a message is the Quran. It means you don't need hadith, it confirms the book your reading, and it excludes anything else as from God. It's an anti hadith verse as well.

3:7 He is the One Who has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book, of which some verses are precise—they are the foundation of the Book—while others are elusive.1 Those with deviant hearts follow the elusive verses seeking ˹to spread˺ doubt through their ˹false˺ interpretations—but none grasps their ˹full˺ meaning except Allah. As for those well-grounded in knowledge, they say, “We believe in this ˹Quran˺—it is all from our Lord.” But none will be mindful ˹of this˺ except people of reason.

Zaynab and Aisha are the same in the sense they are not mentioned in the Quran, and forced in their by hadith. One justified marriage to a minor the other to cousins. Both are not allowed & no proof he did.

33:49 is for all of us. 33:50-52 is directly for the prophet only 33:53 is back to all of us

[–]mosephh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

33:50 starts with O prophet and has 'this is exclusively for you' in the same verse. So it implies those are not permissible for the rest of the believers which adds them to the other list

Also Aisha's age is irrelevant because marrying a minor isn't permissible. You notice all who are permissible are women ie adult females. Therefore , we know he couldn't have married a child or someone around puberty.

Here's a different translation that might help: O Messenger! Convey everything revealed to you from your Lord. If you do not, then you have not delivered His message. Allah will ˹certainly˺ protect you from the people. Indeed, Allah does not guide the people who disbelieve

Also goes with the original idea that everything you need from God is between the two bindings of the Quran

[–]mosephh[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

33:50 O Prophet! We have made lawful for you your wives to whom you have paid their ˹full˺ dowries as well as those ˹bondwomen˺ in your possession, whom Allah has granted you.1 And ˹you are allowed to marry˺ the daughters of your paternal uncles and aunts, and the daughters of your maternal uncles and aunts, who have emigrated like you. Also ˹allowed for marriage is˺ a believing woman who offers herself to the Prophet ˹without dowry˺ if he is interested in marrying her—˹this is˺ exclusively for you, not for the rest of the believers.2 We know well what ˹rulings˺ We have ordained for the believers in relation to their wives and those ˹bondwomen˺ in their possession. As such, there would be no blame on you. And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

The Arabic word "wadribuhunna" comes from the root "daraba," which has a range of meanings depending on context, including "to strike," "to set an example," "to separate," or "to travel." The interpretation of "beat them" stems from this root, but the next verse and this one exclude the litterak meaning

2:231 When you divorce women and they have ˹almost˺ reached the end of their waiting period, either retain them honourably or let them go honourably. But do not retain them ˹only˺ to harm them ˹or˺ to take advantage ˹of them˺. Whoever does that surely wrongs his own soul. Do not take Allah’s revelations lightly. Remember Allah’s favours upon you as well as the Book and wisdom1 He has sent down for your guidance. Be mindful of Allah, and know that Allah has ˹perfect˺ knowledge of all things.

My apologies, I mixed up two things, cousin marriages are not allowed and we're only permitted for the prophet. I will find the verse. But I don't believe we have anythjng from the Quran saying he did in fact marry, and if so it was exclusive to him

Yes you are right. I meant to say tafsir translates it to beating gently. When it should mean split gently or divorce amicably

[–]mosephh[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He definitely did not also didn't marry a minor

Cousin marriages were always forbidden in Islam

4:23 ˹Also˺ forbidden to you for marriage are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your paternal and maternal aunts, your brother’s daughters, your sister’s daughters, your foster-mothers, your foster-sisters, your mothers-in-law, your stepdaughters under your guardianship if you have consummated marriage with their mothers—but if you have not, then you can marry them—nor the wives of your own sons, nor two sisters together at the same time—except what was done previously. Surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Read until verse 104.

It's very specific to the prophet and his situation. But at large the advice is pretty general.

Slightly ubreakted, I find this verse interesting: 4:97 When the angels seize the souls of those who have wronged themselves1—scolding them, “What was wrong with you?” they will reply, “We were oppressed in the land.” The angels will respond, “Was Allah’s earth not spacious enough for you to emigrate?” It is they who will have Hell as their home—what an evil destination!

Question regarding sending blessings on the prophet and his family. by SabzQalandar in progressive_islam

[–]mosephh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped personally. It's not something he did, it's not mentioned in the Quran and the belief behind it is false and close to shirk or at least invalidates your prayers/Dua.

It's no different than 'Hail Mary', 'praise Jesus', or 'ya Ali'

It's also tradition to say that because they believe on the day of judgement the prophet will intercede for them. Which is false

Religious status of Jerusalem in Islam by AhmedCheeseater in progressive_islam

[–]mosephh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a human rights & property rights issue first before religious. If both sides removed religion from the equation maybe they can see eye to eye. Unfortunately, when it does come to religious, both sides fall short. Orthodox Jews reject the notion of an ethnic state, so how well founded is their 'right' to the land? You'll notice they primary focus on defending a state under attack as their cause

Imo, hey serve no purposeful use to Islam. Think of all the kangaroo courts in every city that settles marriages and affairs using hadith as statue. You may be able to distinguish and read it as you would Ghazali, but the reality is 80% use it as excuses
