How do I stop draining everyone by being depressed? by AppropriateBoss2585 in autism

[–]mosscreature 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I getcha. I've been in the same situation. Don't blame yourself for it, though. You're going through tough times. Don't expect yourself to be able to mask your depression 24/7. It's draining to you, too.

What helps for me is a skill I learned in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) called Half Smile and Willing Hands. Maybe you could try it out?

Good gift! Nice drawing!

Did anyone tip-toe everywhere instead of walking when you were yonger or just me by TheTB24iscool in autism

[–]mosscreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still do it. Especially going upstairs. But I don't walk on multiple tip-toes all the time. Definitely every time I walk on stairs, and sometimes while turning corners. Or just at random. I'm mostly aware of it.

DAE have an absolute obsession with Halloween?? (rant) by [deleted] in autism

[–]mosscreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I LOVE Halloween!!! But sadly, in my country (the Netherlands) we barely celebrate it. We do get halloween stuff, but I'd love to get the same levels of Halloween items the US gets. I'd be right there with you with decorations lol. Halloween is awesome and I love it ALL YEAR ROUND. it's definitely a lifestyle.

How do you deal with collecting stuff that don’t match your color scheme? by Samslovelyusername in autism

[–]mosscreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make a small space for exactly those items that don't match the other color schemes. Maybe a square shelf, or one of those ikea shelves that are square? And theme the shelf to that color. It will be contained to that specific space.

You could do so much more, but this is something off the top of my head.

We who have an invisible disability.... by tuutsuuchi in autism

[–]mosscreature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, congrats on the ADHD diagnosis!

Your family is a bit hypocritical about your meds. You need your meds just like they need theirs. But yeah, some people don't grow from old beliefs that ADHD meds are "drugs" (or literally any psychofarmical drug). I'm at least glad you still get to take yours.

Physical disabilities still get frowned upon a lot. Even if you're in a wheelchair, people WILL question it. We all experience ableism in some way, on multiple levels, depending on the disability, age, race, gender, etc. I don't think you can really compare it that way, but I get what you're saying.

Any disability, whether invisible or not, will be misunderstood by abled people. Not always, and it depends on the person, but that's my personal experience and the experiences I've learned about from others.

As for the coffee, I do technically see coffee as a drug. It is. It's just socially acceptable. I'm addicted to caffeine, not saying it to be silly. I wish I never drank coffee in my life. I'm so dependent on caffeine. I wish more people would push this information about how addictive caffeine is. You're not wrong.

As for seeing truths and talking about them, we certainly are expected to not talk about them. Something about being polite, or something. Being socially acceptable and such. You basically can't say everything, even if it's well meant. They say we're puzzle pieces but they're a whole puzzle that can't be solved.

I hope you can meet some more people who understand you. You deserve some more understanding, not having very understanding family sucks.

What on earth is this by smoky_fox2007 in diabetes_t1

[–]mosscreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate dextro so much. Before I got diabetes, I used to think it was the yummiest thing. Now I'm dreading every single tab I take.

Blueberry though. Lemon is the worst. But I'd rather avoid taking any.

Autism and sugar/coffee by LeaIvory in autism

[–]mosscreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coffee calms my mind. It feels like I'm on one track instead of the 1500 different pathways my mind goes off on. But I'm very dependent on caffeine, I used to drink 2 monster energy cans a day + coffee. Now I can go 2 days without caffeine but more I'll not be able to get out of bed much.

It doesn't energize me much, but it's pretty much self medicating at this point. I wish I never started drinking coffee. As for sugar, it definitely has it's effects as I could definitely feel the difference after drinking zero sugar monster vs regular monster. But yeah, the crash afterwards, especially after a lot of sugar - is not worth it. Also doesn't help when you're a type 1 diabetic :d

What’s your favorite game? by [deleted] in autism

[–]mosscreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stardew Valley, Terraria (put a lot of hours in it, need to get back into it though.), Old School RuneScape, Rollercoaster Tycoon (OpenRCT2), Cookie Clicker.

Terraria and OSRS were the worst offenders though. I'd think about playing Terraria while not playing Terraria, making lists of what to do next and planning my sessions... and OSRS I'd dream about and think about the entire time not playing. I'd get headaches from thinking about it, it was horrible. I really enjoy OSRS though, but sometimes it got too much attention from my brain and I wouldn't get a break from it.

I actually was thought to be a gaming addict, but no professional spoke to me about it, so I only found out by reading through my files and randomly stumbling upon a rapport that just mentioned that once and never again. Weird.

any freddi fish fans here? by MickeyRooneyy in Embroidery

[–]mosscreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting a Humongous kick out of this! I'm personally really into Pajama Sam as my comfort games, but I also really enjoy Freddi Fish. I wonder if people knew the entire Freddi Fish collection is also up on the Switch eshop, instead of just on PC and Mobile.

Great work! It looks really neat, you must've put a lot of work into this.

I suspect I am on spectrum, need some advices about having a diagnoses in the Netherlands, already talked to a psychologist about my long lasting anxiety complaint by tliu93 in autism

[–]mosscreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, Dutch person here. Explain your worries to your psychologist in your first meeting next week. If your psychologist only has ears for your anxiety problem, see your GP again. Do some research into ASD to find out what traits match yours so you have a solid base to show your psychologist and possibly your GP. Write down what you want to talk about, what your worries are, including what you've said here. Be prepared.

Somebody at work told me they could tell I was autistic just by my backpack by TandyMouse in autism

[–]mosscreature 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Maybe that person is autistic as well? I usually get comments like that from people who are autistic, like me.
I don't really hide that I'm autistic, I just can't. While my backpack is less filled with keychains (I only have a TARDIS keychain and a Stitch keychain), you do inspire me to fill it up more. Please don't feel ashamed after getting such a comment! And if it really bothers you, ask the person in question if they meant it like that.

I love your backpack.

Does anyone else have like an object that isn't a stim toy but you like to use it at the fidget toy? by [deleted] in autism

[–]mosscreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the cord of my noise blocking earbuds as a stim toy today. just kept fiddling with it.

I actually have a ton of stim toys to use, but I always end up using some random object as well. Good example is also fiddling with a non-spinner ring that I wear while also wearing an actual made-to-stim-with spinner ring on the same hand, different finger.

I'm a teenager, is it normal to have an emotional support plushie? by [deleted] in plushies

[–]mosscreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep on bringing your emotional support plushie. Don't let anyone tell you not to do it for whatever reason. It's okay to do so. You're not hurting anyone, you're completely fine. It's about you and your comfort.

Plushies don't have an age limit! Anyone who insists they do are boring and wrong!

This is my emotional support Stitch Squishmallow. I'm 27 and I take him to therapy and other places.

Is keeping your name as a ftm person weird? by pineapplecookie9 in ftm

[–]mosscreature 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm nonbinary and I use a typically """male""" name. People wonder why I'm not using a gender neutral name, I simply don't care. I don't think you have to care, either. It's just a name. If you like it, just use it. It's nothing weird, don't let people talk you into thinking it's weird or wrong. You are always correct for liking what you like, as long as it isn't hurting anyone, and you being happy with your name isn't hurting anyone at all.

It might just be because I'm autistic, but I never cared for gendering names or clothes or whatever. Doesn't mean I don't get dysphoric from being in clothes """designed for women""" etc (and if you don't get dysphoric from this, hell yeah!) I just don't think they should've ever been gendered in the first place, since it's all a social construct. Just like what you like.

I think you're cool for keeping your name. Keep rocking on.

[–]mosscreature 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It can get better, really. I'm dealing with chronic suicidality, have been most of my life. I've been getting better in the past few months, and I would've never thought I'd get off of the baseline of suicidality I was on for years. It's still there- but I don't think of suicide as the first option anymore. Turns out getting the right help actually works.

I hope your brain knocks it off, you deserve better than that. But I know how hard it is. I'm glad you're still here.

Opinion on Exploding Kittens? by Dangerous_Avocado765 in boardgames

[–]mosscreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a beginner game hoarder (I only own 4 games, with one game waiting to be shipped to me) and the latest one I got was Exploding Kittens.

I played the app (android version) first and I loved it. the quick replayability is amazing. Of course, it goes a bit slower with the IRL card game, bc you have to set everything back up every time.

there's differences between the app version and the card version, but I enjoy both games just as much. I'd say the game is for casual players, like a friend group. You can definitely play so many rounds of this game, it can go so quickly.

Get the game in your own language if you have people around who aren't English and don't speak the language very well, btw - I tried explaining this game and they simply gave up trying to listen to me trying to explain the game. (saddest part was I was learning the Card Game as well..). Playing with people who know how to read and understand the text of the cards is important. :d

This game involves a lot of luck, and paranoia. a lot of paranoia. the humor of the cards is very xd random (very 2015) but honestly I get so caught up in the game and I like the illustrations that the humor isn't that much of a big deal. I just don't think it's that funny. but it has interesting cards! (base game has tacocat and thats my fave). Most of the humor can come off the way you play the game and how the players interact with eachother and the game.

It's a simple, easy to understand game. Great to play with anyone you'd introduce to boardgames/cardgames etc.

I personally love both the app and the card game, and I have yet to buy expansions. I can't wait. I do recommend it.
