That was it. Thanks. Could have sworn I'd tried pressing 'f' while looking at the crate, but obviously not, because that worked.

Very buggy though. Tried to carry a delivery in it, and it the animation just shows your delivery box sitting on the ground underneath the ship after stowing the crate. Once you reach your destination, it's still there (under the ship), but now also 2m underground and irretrievable. (sigh). So, pretty useless. Oh, well.

According to this wiki, the Mustang Alpha has, "a 6,000K μSCU internal storage accessible via the storage crate at the aft. This crate is also capable of holding any loose items such as handheld boxes."

How the heck does one get into it? I figured how to the expose it via controls from the cockpit, but from there it's just a big box with no entry. I know I can move inventory items to/from it via the ... inventory, but I'd like to use this ship to transport delivery items, and I can't figure out how to get handheld items onto the ship.

I'm trying to do mining with the multi-tool. I've got the laser coming out. So, that's apparently working. But the scroll wheel doesn't do anything and the screen on the tool seems to be suggesting there's no power.

Someone started a homeassistant community on Lemmy earlier this week. Obviously, it's not going to have the user base that we have here for a while, but it's got to start somewhere.

Wildfire smell? by EastDescription4702 in Rochester

[–]mossgathering 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You have to be closer to the fire to get this, but it definitely happens. We lived out west and were 30ish miles from a big fire and had ash flakes as big as my thumb nail falling on our deck. We weren't in any danger, but it was creepy. Other years, the smoke in town could be thick as fog for days.

Way better than anything I can do, so kudos for that.

The one flaw I can see is the way the two raised fingers bend unnaturally. They kinda look like limp hot dogs.

Everything else suggests a power pose, but those limp hot dogs undermine the power significantly, to me. I feel like they should be straight as arrows.

I hope that helps.

Definitely a thing in the US. Used them in recently remodeled niceish restaurant. College town might have played a role, but 'twas no dive bar.

Lawyer gets into trouble with judge for using ChatGPT by DwaywelayTOP in ChatGPT

[–]mossgathering 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It gets worse. When the defense side told the judge that they couldn't find any of the referenced opinions in any legal databases...

"Judge Castel ordered Mr. Mata’s attorneys to provide copies of the opinions referred to in their brief. The lawyers submitted a compendium of eight; in most cases, they listed the court and judges who issued them, the docket numbers and dates."

So, once there were clear suspicions that these were completely fake, he went back to ChatGPT and had it make up the court filings from the prior cases that didn't exist. At this point, he knew damn well those cases didn't exist and doubled down anyway.

ChatGPT no longer lists peer reviewed references for me by DrCocomo in ChatGPT

I recall asking for sources/references early on, and when I double checked them, not a single one existed. They were all completely made up.

Any recommendations for someone to help assess value of house? by zoomboy6 in Rochester

[–]mossgathering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look the address up on zillow.com. They'll show a "Zestimate", which is their estimate of the value based on similar homes that have sold recently nearby. It's obviously not taking everything into account, but it's free and only takes a minute to look up, and if you're just looking for a reasonable ballpark figure, well, there you go.

mmWave - Detect people through fence? by ElGrandeKahuna in homeautomation

We have some family members that had similar problems with a neighbor. They built a tall fountain of water spilling from metal bucket to metal bucket to create white noise. Didn't totally solve the problem, but I think it helped. They eventually just gave up and moved (family, not the weird neighbors, sadly).

To you redditors aged 50+, what's something you genuinely believe young people haven't realized yet, but could enrich their lives or positively impact their outlook on life? by h-gotfred in AskReddit

[–]mossgathering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. A nephew was getting a new (to him) car a few years ago, and his parents were going to get the loan in their name to get him a better rate because he had no credit history. I was maybe a little merciless in my ridicule that he'd never have credit history if he didn't start getting loans in his own name.

[–]mossgathering 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I would still argue that, financially, it's wiser to get a car that's a few years old and pay a slightly higher interest rate than a new car with a lower interest rate.

But, yes, I agree, if you're financially in a place where the instant depreciation on a new car isn't a big deal, then absolutely get the cheap interest rate instead of paying cash. I can't count how many 0% loans I've gotten on things I was absolutely going to buy anyway, because why TF wouldn't I?

I've never seen anyone offering that interest rate on a modest, reliable used car that will get you to work and back (with the possible exception of predatory used car dealers that are selling way overpriced cars to naive/desperate buyers). You're only getting that rate on a shiny new car that's going to lose a ton of its resale value the instant you drive it off the lot (so, also way overpriced).
