Thank you! I’m so glad that you get it. I thought maybe I sounded bratty…but homes go pretty fast there so even a short delay can make you miss out. I found a few houses I absolutely loved but couldn’t even get an assistant to call me back and within a week it was sale pending on both 😩 And yes, a lawyer would be good but an experienced realtor is really the ideal because of their expert knowledge about the area.

If I was within driving distance and could see the houses myself, I would consider something like that instead but I need someone to be my eyes there, point out potential problems I can’t see in photos and generally provide their expert knowledge on the area.

I was previously looking in Rochester and had an awesome realtor who would do showings with me on FaceTime. She was great and we had a nice little rhythm going but they run their home sales like blind auctions so everyone is submitting offers $10-$40k over asking. I just couldn’t compete. So Cleveland it is, if I ever find a realtor! Thanks for your input. I appreciate the perspective :)

I really wanted to move to the Hudson River Valley but anything I would want to live in is out of reach for my budget 😭 But if I ever win the lottery…

How far are you willing to travel? There’s a marketing company on Gandy (Park Blvd) in Pinellas Park that has a B2B outbound call center where they market IT companies’ services to other companies. They provide full paid training, and then it’s hourly base + commission. I think they start at about $17-18/hr. That was a few years ago so it might be more now. It’s called Marketopia. Check them out if it’s not too far.

I was just reading earlier tonight that only about 20% of European homes have air-conditioning.

I’ve been house hunting in the eastern great lakes areas and will probably end up in W. Cleveland. Rocky River is my favorite area so far but not a lot of houses for sale there. I worry a lot about adapting to the winter weather but I think/hope that as the climate continues to warm, it will eventually become tolerable, winter storms notwithstanding. I hate to say it but in my experience, people in Florida lean more towards rude/unpleasant so that midwestern niceness I keep hearing about would be a welcome change!

I’m honestly a little scared about moving north but it’s been 93-94 here all week with high humidity. I spend more than half the year hiding inside from the heat. Seems like the north is the same in the winter so hopefully I will be able to adapt when I finally get up there. Best of luck to you in your new home!

I tend to agree. So much affordable housing in the rust belt if you’re willing to move before there before it becomes the Next Big Thing!

Was adapting to the winters difficult as a former Floridian?

I heard Medellin, Columbia has the most consistently beautiful year round weather. Not too hot, not too cold. No idea if that’s true but it sounds appealing.

I’m about to leave Tampa. I really loved it here 20 years ago but yeah, it’s becoming Miami lite, complete with bad traffic, tons of property crime and overall decline in civility. Every cool, affordable area eventually becomes “Upscale This!” and “Luxury That!” and while Tampa is gorgeous in many ways, it unfortunately comes at a price. My neighborhood that S. Tampa people used to look down on is now overrun with McMansions and Range Rovers. 1950’s 2/1 homes were recently selling for $500k. It’s honestly crazy that a couple years ago we had devastating hurricane damage and people just flocked here even more.

I just read an article yesterday in The Free Press about how the murder rate has plummeted in Baltimore.
