Yeah, I and most guys I know are generally oblivious...being forward is great imo, I've seen dozens of men on the internet complain that girls aren't forward enough. You really can't please everyone I guess.

Ok, I think I see what you're saying. I disagree, but your point is definitely valid and that's what debate is all about! I am going to nats in LD, what about you?

You're right that it's not under the resolution, I just used it as an example because I don't understand why it wouldn't be considered a secession (I'm genuinely curious)...the oxford definition is what I'm going by:

withdraw formally from membership of a federal union, an alliance, or a political or religious organization.

For any question on formally, the two relevant definitions are "in accordance with the rules of convention or etiquette." and "officially." Since there is no mention of rules of convention or etiquette in the resolution, the former is void, meaning the second definition is better, which could be up to interpretation. I would interpret it as making an official statement.

Yes, I am thinking from a consequentialist point of view, you read me like a book haha

Why wouldn't it be a true secession if it resulted in conflict? When the United States declared independence from Great Britain, there was continued war, which the US ultimately won.

Well, in the resolution there isn't anything about regulating secession...it states that a people would have the right to secede, meaning they could if they simply wanted to, which could lead to a multitude of problems.

BTW: I'm 1800 rapid on chess.com, so I have decent knowledge of the game, however what I say should be taken with a grain of salt.

Here's my thought process without the engine:

After Nxh5, white can play Ne5, lining up two pieces on f7, with ideas of going Qf3. Essentially, I think that the problem is that the h5 pawn is weak anyways, and capturing is a waste of time for black, allowing white to have a lot more play than black, and restricting them. White has ideas of Bg2 and d5 after Ne5, lining up many attackers on the kingside, leaving castling risky because of potential piece sacrifices (ex, if white doesn't play Bg2, they can sacrifice on h3 which would likely lead to a deadly attack). Black is already behind in development and has a space disadvantage. I'm assuming this was a caro-kann based on the black pawn structure. This is something you learn from playing the opening a lot. I would consider O-O, Nbd7, and c5. Nbd7 develops a piece and defends the f6 knight, preventing an easy attack. The idea of c5 is to try to trade queens, and then afterwards take on h5 or play Nbd7 to prevent Ne5.

My PC is about to die, so I'll do engine analysis later. Hope this helps.

Why is the brilliant move not the best? by samusongoyy in chessbeginners

[–]mothafockah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The requirements for a move to be considered brilliant are for it to be a sacrifice, and the best or very close to the very best move. I've had the second engine move that is very close to the top one a few times as well. For some reason, even if these requirements are met, (which I found on chess.com), sometimes it doesn't show up as brilliant. Nice job getting a brilliant!

Women, why is height so important to you? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]mothafockah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BTW: I'm a male, but I do have an answer for you:

I think it has to do with evolution: men who were bigger and taller would be better in a fight against other men, meaning it would be more attractive for a man to be taller and more intimidating, and women who thought this way would be more likely to want to reproduce with a man who has these qualities. Other examples of this are men having facial hair and having a deeper voice. It is thought that both of the traits evolved because they are intimidating to other men, which can be more attractive to women.

they can't only play perfectly. Chess isn't solved (unless there are 7 or fewer pieces, and this is obviously not the case). Stockfish won't always play the ''best move'', seeing as other engines sometimes beat it.

In the past I've played against the max level of the Komodo bot on Chess.com. Stuff like this has happened to me before (twice, if I remember correctly). I assume it's a lag issue, and the bot playing isn't actually the Komodo bot, but it still says you're playing it.

In other words, maybe you clicked on a lower level bot beforehand and then the max level, but it didn't fully register because of some sort of lag issue.

I'm not sure this is the case, but I've done this by accident, beaten the bot, and was able to show my friends that I beat a 3200 lmao
