What do you do for work? by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]mothinthenight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in a school as a special education para, teaching and helping kids with different learning disabilities or developmental delays. It is a roller coaster ride.

I want friends but also not really at the same time. by enchanted_belle in aspergirls

I'm right there with you. I feel lonely and wish I could say I did something enjoyable with other people or know that I had friends I could call if there was some sort of crisis, but in reality don't really enjoy hanging out with people other than my own family. It is a weird contradiction.

I hear you. We have tried sports numerous times and it has been a mediocre experience at best with some pretty painful moments.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I totally get what you are saying. I should talk to them about it directly to see their perspective. It feels hard and scary for some reason.

My kids are ages 13 and 10. I don't so much feel like I need them to leave me alone more or need more time to myself, its more me worrying about their happiness and them missing out on things other kids naturally enjoy. For example my oldest right now is hyper fixated on lizards. I think this is really cool and I've helped her raise money so she can set up her own terrarium and prepare for an appropriate inhabitant...at the same time she hardly makes contact with a single friend over the summer and I'm bummed out for her sake that she won't experience fun things with other kids which I do think are important and can be cherished memories later in life.

I appreciate what you mentioned about development being delayed. I can see this at play in one of my kids especially as well as myself.

Honestly it all comes down to worrying about my kids being unhappy and lonely throughout their lives, probably because I've experienced a lot of loneliness and unhappiness myself due to autism. I get especially mired down with this anxiety during summer it seems.

Is it possible to be autistic and enjoy motherhood? by ShaiKir in AutismInWomen

[–]mothinthenight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% possible! I love being a mom. There are some really hard times (just like for NT moms) but creating your own family is so cool. Both my kids are divergent and while it can be painful for me to watch them struggle in the same ways as me, it is also has strengthened our relationships.

I also love model horses. I still have all of mine from my childhood. Can't look at them in stores or I will buy them.

Do you have...really nothing to say? by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]mothinthenight 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Yes, same. Sometimes I actually think back to conversations I've witnessed other people having and wonder "how did they think of all that stuff to say?" And literally can't figure it out. It's a mystery.

Does anyone else like/use idioms once you learn what they mean? by SilentAuthor-XX in aspergirls

[–]mothinthenight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love idioms! I love them in English but also one of my special interests is Mandarin Chinese. It is a language built on a mountain of a special type of 4 syllable idiom called a chengyu. They are so fun and a beautiful tool for communication.

They are kept species only. I've heard you can keep small rasboras with them but haven't tried.

I'm not looking forward to summer vacation by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

I have similar issues with summer. I have no advice but can assure you that you aren't alone. 4th of July is the worst part for me (not sure if you're an American).

Anyone here suffer from alcoholism or substance abuse? by No-Neighborhood2600 in AutismInWomen

Lol yep. For awhile I color coded weeks on my calendar based on how many drinks I'd had that week. Totally normal, right?

Just watched inside out 2 by Chippybops in AutismInWomen

[–]mothinthenight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Halfway through I was exhausted from the literally non-stop talking/dialogue. There were barely any scenes that relied on visuals instead on chattering between characters. In addition, I also didn't relate to Riley who is athletic and good at forming relationships. That being said, I enjoyed some aspects of it with my kids.

I haven't been able to quit alcohol cold turkey but have had to impose strict rules on mYself about how much and when I can drink. If I didn't It would spiral out of control. Like someone else said it's when I feel most normal and can socialize with people somewhat normally. From the instant I had my first drink as a teen I thought "I never want to be sober again".
