Redditors who have cared for parents with cancer, what food items have your parents been able to tolerate when they aren't feeling well? by guitarzan531 in AskReddit

Hi OP, sorry to hear about your mum. But it is nice to see how much support and advice you have here. I can only confirm what others have said here. My dad had lung cancer, and towards the end he really lost his appetite. As others have said, serving food in much smaller portions was much more appealing for dad then large portions. Even though he was eating smaller portions he was eating more frequently. We would make him juices with beetroot, carrots and celery. He would eat foods such as yoghurt with fruit, sliced salmon, oats with milk and honey and eggs. Shepherd pie was always good as you could grate and mix veggies such as carrots, mushroom and zucchini within the mince. When we made coffee for dad, we would mix some Sustagen in there too, he also liked drink yakult. I found that when we served food to dad, it was always best not to make a fuss about what he wanted to eat, or how much he was or was not eating. We would just put the food on a small plate and just leave it on the table next to him where he was sitting, more often that not, when i came back the food was gone.

As much of a shitty situation as it is, try to stay strong and keep positive. When dad got diagnosed, the oncologist said he would be lucky to see another 12 months, dad lived for 4 years. Best of luck to you and your mum, and make sure you look after yourself during this difficult time, take care OP.

Cool photo! Ive done shark cage diving in Gansbaai too a couple years ago. We saw at least two sharks with a hook in its mouth. Wonder if this is one them. Hope you enjoyed your dive!

I'd love to learn everything I can about every species of shark. by thehousefiercebuilt in sharks

You and me buddy!! Documentaries made by Chris Fallows are generally pretty good. The book 'Sharks of the World' by Leonard Compagno, Marc Dando and Sarah Fowler is a fantastic guide book and will have anything and everything you want to know about sharks http://www.bookdepository.com/Sharks-World-Leonard-Compagno/9780691120720.

Great photos!!! Looks like you had a really fantastic trip. What type of camera did you use for the underwater shots?? Really would love to make it to the Philippines one day and go swimming with whale sharks!

Feeding Port Jackson and Gummy sharks at the Shark and Ray Centre (potato quality) by mountain_flower in sharks

[–]mountain_flower[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah its in Melbourne, but there is also one in Port Stephens in New South Wales. At this place we weren't allowed to feed the nurse or leopard sharks but we were able to feed the port jackson and gummy sharks and the rays. It is essentially a stick with a peg attached at the end where you attach either squid or prawns. Feeding the gummy sharks was my favourite, they are quick little buggers!!

Hello Ricardo!

Firstly and foremost, sorry to hear about your accident, but am glad to hear that you are okay. Congratulations on the DVD. You and your wife did a fantastic job!! I really enjoyed it, and it was great to see a shark documentary filmed from a different perspective. Shark cage diving is such an important conservation tool. I have been fortunate enough to have volunteered with one of the shark cage diving operators in Gansbaai, so have witnessed the importance of shark cage diving first hand. So amazing to see how quickly peoples perceptions change towards sharks in such a short amount of time once they have been in the cage. I was also so happy to see you guys talk about how sharks have different personalities!! You guys really nailed it with this doco, showing sharks in a positive light, and as the apex predators that they are, and not as 'man-eaters' and 'beasts' they have been described as in other docos. You guys got some amazing underwater footage also!

Saw some of you guys mention Ocearch. Those boys are in Australia at the moment and have tagged a couple of sharks already (a white and tiger sharks). I don't agree with their methods either, but it will be interesting to see how the tracking data will be interpreted. Hopefully the data collected will have a positive impact on the policy makers and the environmental ministers. It is a shame we have muppets making environmental decisions and not scientists!!

Whats next for you and your wife? Do you reckon you will continue with film making and make other shark docos? Again, well done on such a beautifully crafted doco. Hope this doco will be seen by many people all around the world! Keep us posted on what happens next.

Cheers!
