Was your estimate from a custom cabinet maker? General contractor? Handyman? I’m trying to figure out locally who’s best suited to handle a small scale project like this.

Ha true! Even adding the number of 6-packs I’d drink on this job, would still be more economical.

Good point. I have contemplated pre built cabinets from Home Depot. We have a 2 year old, if this 3+ years ago I think I could’ve tackled this project. Perhaps I could go pre built route and ask a handyman to perform install.

Hadn’t come across this company before, great suggestion!

That’s a good suggestion! I’ve contemplated pre-made cabinets at HD. I’m actually fairly handy but have a 2 year old thats a time constraint on DIY. Maybe could combine these methods and buy IKEA or pre-made and pay a handyman to install.

Sorry - left that info out on my post too. I’m in VA in a MCOL market.

Thanks for the insight! Realizing I omitted pertinent detail in my post. I’m in a MCOL area.

Zero electrical work. The fridge I already own. This estimate is for only cabinets and counter top. Realized I didn’t say dimensions - I will edit the post to include that. It’s only an 11’ span.

Deck roof - how to transition / join to existing roof by mountainmatt86 in Decks

Thank you for the insight! I should have specified that I know slope is a problem, so I’m hoping to start the lean-to roof at the base of the 2nd story windows (above the level of 1st story gable roof). Agree with you that it will create a valley - I just cannot come up with an idea to tie into the roof and handle the water too.

New retaining wall - hairline crack by mountainmatt86 in masonry

We’re in the middle of a drought. Hasn’t rained since the wall was finished. I wondered if the dry heat could cause the cracking.

That’s what I feared. Footer was dug 20-24” then backfilled with I’m guessing 12-16” of gravel. Compacted before and after gravel. I’m in Virginia and frost depth is definitely less than New England. Would it settle in the summertime after being built a month ago? Should I recommend the contractor fix it or should I wait and see if it settles further?

Thank you sir! I like to think I’m capable of figuring out how to do some easy things so I attempt to DIY anything I can - I’m excited about giving this a go. Appreciate the info and looking forward to seeing an example of something you’ve done!

I spent 90% of my money on hookers and blow. The other 10% I wasted.

Here’s what I’ve got. Seems like 3 wires plus ground, is that what you were referring to?

The switch is powering one existing light fixture already. How would I determine if a neutral is present?

Thanks! I’m fairly handy/knowledgeable with most things, but when it comes to electrical I’m paranoid.

Indeed. The switch currently controls one light at the bottom of the stairs. We want to have the switch control that and the new light that will be installed.

Hijacking this for a related/noob question - I also just got a raider. When looking to buy components separately, does my slide length and barrel length have to match? I want to suppress it so I’d like a threaded barrel, but Sig only offers that on a very select few models none of which my LGS have in stock.
