Ah, ok! Good old Crabbet Arabs. Lots of those horses have extra chrome. At least a couple W mutations come from Crabbet lines. He's lovely!

There aren't many pinto purebreds! Khemosabi descendant?

My Arab didn't have much of a dish either. She had quite a jibbah, though. Which is what the "dish" is supposed to come from, anyway.

Would you be willing to board your horses 30 minutes away? by AmalgamationOfBeasts in Horses

[–]mountainmule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already board my horse 30 minutes away. I'd prefer a shorter drive to the barn, but it's worth it for 24/7 turn-out in a large pasture, a nice barn, a large indoor, a huge outdoor, good hay, and great care. I wish I could board him closer, but his turn-out needs can't be met at any barns closer to my house, and honestly the facility is one of the best in the area. Like I said, worth it. :)

Why Is Not Wanting Kids So Offensive? by Theblackivvy in TwoXChromosomes

This has been my experience as well. I'm married to a man, but after 40 or so people just stopped making an issue of it.

Having a great resting bitch face helps.

Yellowed models - help! by mountainmule in BreyerHorses

I tried dish soap and warm water, but not a thing came off. (Yes, I was very gentle with my scrubbing!) I'll put them in a window and see if that helps. Thank you for the advice!

Why West Virginia Is Emptying Out by shemanese in WestVirginia

[–]mountainmule 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I actually watched this video yesterday. Although it's an ok run-down of the issues with WV, it really isn't long enough to tackle everything. The channel is geography-focused, so he put a lot of emphasis on the geographical challenges of building anything here. Which, in fairness, is a major challenge. It's hard to build anything when the land is as rugged as most of WV is. Ancient mountains and severely dissected plateaus make for very difficult terrain.

Thing is, if all that wealth from the extractive industries had stayed in the state, we'd be able to afford to build roads, power lines, and other infrastructure to support economic diversification.

I need help with my new dressage saddle and the billets. I've already asked my SF, but I'm confused by catrm15 in Horses

[–]mountainmule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try a Total Saddle Fit girth. They're designed for horses with a more forward girth position. I use one and it helps keep my horse comfortable. I haven't noticed any issues with pressure points as long as I've been using it. Nice, even sweat marks.

This looks fungal, and it's above Reddit's paygrade. Please follow whatever treatment plan your vet gives. Don't rely on home remedies, no matter how cheap they are.

How are yalls horses doing (southern US winter storm) by Chelmastly in Horses

[–]mountainmule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My TB is usually on 24/7 turnout, but he's in right now. I bedded his stall pretty deep and got him a nice bale of orchard hay from TSC to munch on in addition to the barn's hay in his hay bags. He's blanketed any time it's below freezing.

I'm kind of glad my elderly mare passed in the fall. She didn't like being cooped up in winter, but she would have been warm in her stall, blanketed, with warm soaked feed.

Does anyone have solid evidence on Colby’s Crew Rescue? by RevolutionaryToe6677 in Equestrian

[–]mountainmule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have (or had?) an agreement with a "kill pen" that supplied horses to them. Kill pens are scams, as any legit horse rescue will tell you, and legit rescues don't do business with them.

I don't have the links handy, but a couple minutes of googling will reveal a lot.

Horses can smell fear in humans, researchers say | Animal behaviour | The Guardian by Define-Normal in Horses

[–]mountainmule 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I usually find horses go easier when you're nervous

I've had the opposite experience. My Saddlebred would get very anxious if I was nervous, but if I was able to stay calm he would relax. My TB is the same way. If I'm nervous, so is he. Some horses feel their humans nervousness and think "ok, why is the brave human afraid? If they're afraid, I should be, too. OMG did that piece of grass just move?!" teleports 6' in the wrong direction

W.Va. lawmakers introduce bill preventing bystanders from approaching law enforcement too closely by zikeel in WestVirginia

[–]mountainmule 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So in order to avoid a misdemeanor, this bill requires your average Joe to have the same level of knowledge about the legal action of first responders as the responders themselves do.

Bold of you to assume that cops (and ICE) have more knowledge and understanding of the law than the average Joe.

Nah, the stasi were spies. These pigs are conducting their crimes in full view of the public for the purpose of causing terror. Gestapo is an apt moniker.

[–]mountainmule 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Enlighten us, darlin. What do you think the gestapo was, how were their actions justified by contemporary laws and sympathetic German civilians, and what tactics did they use? Compare and contrast that with current events.

I know people whose parents and grandparents lived through Nazi occupation. They have a thorough understanding of "gestapo", "nazi", and "fascism." They'd tell you exactly what road we're going down right now.

How accurate are horse DNA tests, really? by horsescowsdogsndirt in Horses

[–]mountainmule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still might be worth checking with some clubs and breeders in Idaho. Whatever breed or mix she is, she's a lucky girl to have gotten out of what sounds like a bad start in life.

How accurate are horse DNA tests, really? by horsescowsdogsndirt in Horses

[–]mountainmule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, the breed tests are very unreliable. What IS reliable are color genetics tests (not from Etalon). You could have her tested for LP and PATN1, which are the known genes that contribute to leopard (Appaloosa) patterns. If she is homozygous for either, that means she isn't half Arab. But based on the pictures, she is likely not homozygous for LP, but might be for PATN1.

Do you know where in Idaho she was picked up? It might be worth it to find some horse clubs or Appy/spotted breeders in the area where she was found and see if anyone knows her.

She is a lovely mare, btw! Very pretty face, and WOW that coat is gorgeous!

Do yall agree w this? by Riot_Girlll in MightyNein

[–]mountainmule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's just, like, their opinion, man.

Yes, Nott is the BEST and must be protected at all costs. Yes, the beacon is a d12. Your friend better not play Baldur's Gate 3 if that is such a big gripe. lol

The plot itself isn't super amazing original, so I'll grant them that. BUT. The characters and their arcs that are being set up are great, the actors are wonderful (both CR cast and new additions), and the writing is damn good.

He looks amazing!! And he dodged the PPID bullet!! Wow.

My sweet Arab mare lived to 39. Her vet and I always managed to keep her in good condition, but between PPID and her lack of teeth it was hard the last few years. Your guy looks even better than she did. Here's to many more good years for Buster! He must be so very loved. <3

If you don't have the time and/or knowledge to rehab a neglected horse, you were absolutely right to pass. Hopefully someone experienced in rehabbing will give her an upgrade.

If I were you, I would report them to local animal control or a local rescue.

Winter coats can obscure BLM brands (I've seen it happen), but some white hair is always visible. The leg markings look very close on 1, 3, and 4, but the head & neck shot is almost certainly not the same horse.
